a lot of those things you're asking for just don't exist together. you can't have a powerful processor and graphics card and have long battery life. and you especially can't have all 3 AND be weightless.

you have an idea for YC? build it yourself. that'll build your skills enough to maybe get yourself a job later on, and you'll have a nice website to use as a portfolio project.

> I sometimes get the feeling that the HN crowd is a bit (understandably) myopic and focuses too much on simplistic websites. i disagree with the simplistic notion. but i'd note that it focuses on software because that is YC's wheelh

the difficulty there (as it relates to this article, at least) is whether or not they'll sponsor someone's visa. it seemed difficult for a friend of mine to find something that would.

indeed. beyond that, i think that a dating site that is truly effective inherently means that you're constantly losing good customers as they no longer need the site (though perhaps the natural attrition rate is lower). its also hard to

CC chargeback. for the average consumer, obviously, you would want to avoid it. for TC doing some journalism on a company they once supported and gave praise, PR, traffic, and the buzz to get funding, i would've expected a bit more. but ma

it is conceivable. it is possible. it is, however, not at all likely. like i said in another response, they're almost definitely doing shady business. call them out on it. but call them out on it with facts , not speculation. TC is su

i'm not splitting the difference. if any messages were fake, its shady and legally liable. my point is, how can he know this for sure? all he's doing is saying that it is probably true, and not investigating. $30 from TC to sign up for

i agree that its most likely fake, but it seems like TC would be able to comp him for the $30 for a membership it would take to lend weight to the story. are the messages fake? again, yeah, probably. but its also concievable that one or t

sounds like its time to open up a free site that doesn't store passwords in plaintext and doesn't get sold to the terrible dinosaurs. one can only hope it doesn't turn out badly. intuit hasn't yet ruined mint, so its theoretically possibl

i think you're misreading. $16,500 is what the post states are transportation costs in the US. $4000 is the stated cost for AUS, which is more reasonable considering a flight. i think 16.5% is probably off base, but not that far off. clo

i didn't mean to imply a correlation there between work time and cashing out. my point was more, you can be an entrepreneur and build a healthy business irrespective of things like raising funds or working 80 hour weeks.

i'd point out that you can be an entrepreneur without working crazy hours. lifestyle businesses are perfectly legitimate, you just probably won't get any of the cashouts that people seem to (somewhat unrealistically) idolize and strive for
