I don’t think it’s as well known as you or I might assume. I’ve been fascinated by early writing for a long time and I often find people are unaware that writing like this (rather than transactional stuff) goes back that far.

This was a weirdly strong memory from my childhood. The BBC’s consumer rights programme Watchdog, which my parents always watched, would cover it on an almost weekly basis. It really was a staggeringly stupid thing to do. And it was weird t

Currently going through this. "We'll have lots of autonomy", "they want to learn for us as much as we learn from them", etc. A year down the line and our founders have left and we've been gutted of anything tha

My wife does a photo book every year, combining the best of both our photos. It’s a bit of a chore, but I’m so glad she does it, they are so much nicer to browse through. The kids love looking at them all from time to time.

I really wish airships were actually viable, but it’s just never going to happen. They seemed like a really nice way to travel, slow and sedate like an ocean liner, but you could take them over land.

Thanks for sharing that. It’s one of those conditions, like Tourette’s or OCD that has an almost comic reputation in popular portrayals. More people need to understand what it really is. I hope you manage to get better treatment in the futu

This reminds me of reading The Hobbit to my son last year, I actually found the language quite hard to work with in places. The rhythm is just different to modern English and there were turns of phrase that are rarely used now. It’s amazing

As a Brit with two small kids, I was on the lookout for some practise books to help them practice what we call “joined up” writing and kept finding US based ones. I finally understood why so many Americans hate cursive, it seems a lot more

Our school does that. The staff must have had so many phone conversations where the first thing the parent said was "omg is something worng?" that they just learn to automatically preempt it. We've had the "This is $teac

I remember helping out at school to install Lotus Smartsuite on a room full of PCs from floppies. The box was about 2 foot long. We had to relay them from one PC to the next so we could install them all roughly at the same time.

This is great. Although looking at the UK map makes me sad, all those abandoned lines. It makes you wonder what the country would be like if we'd leaned into the rail system instead of tearing up a chunck of it following the Beaching R

Why do you think rooftop solar is only going to be single digit? Is it down to the cost/complexity of installation compared to greenfield solar setups? Instinctively it feels like there is a huge amount of unused roof area in the UK th
