Cancer is so variable. A friend of ours realised they were ill because their half-marathon time (which would have had a heart attack trying to hit) was way worse than expected. He was dead about two months later. Like your freind he went fr

This is one of the reasons I wish drivers would stop trying to let me cross the street when they could just drive past. Most of the time I can't see them clearly enough to make eye contact and be sure that they are not just lost/c

What sort of legal issues would prevent Google actually providing some information on the reason for the ban, of prevent it actually engaging in any kind of useful communication? My issue with these bans is not the bans themselves, but the

Based on the frequency with which this sort of post gets significant traction it's pretty clear that no one at Google gives a crap about this issue. I find it hard to imagine that people in Google are unaware of this problem. I often w

Given Google's habit of having some "AI" randomly kill someone's account, combined with a total lack of customer service, I can't think of a company I would trust less with my domains. It still makes me nervous that

Also a native english speaker. I was about to disagree with you, that we use "when" when several things might be true, but then I realised that in those cases each of the possibilities will happen, but at different times, like &

Also, if you were rung on a landline, ring back on your mobile. I'm not sure if it's always the case, but I believe that a call to a landline only terminates when the caller hangs up. This certainly used to be the case. This allow

Really interesting to see an alternative view from the prevailing narrative that it's all about the direct costs (housing, childcare etc). It seems to be such a multi-factor problem that I don't see any governments managing to com

Agreed. One of the things I like about both Ruby and Rails is how well deprecations and changes are managed. Significant changes occur over multiple versions with really good prewarning.

I find spelling correction systems interesting because I frequently seem to confuse them. There is something about the way I misspell that causes them issues. I am often only two letters out, but I get no suggestions. My misspelling tend to

One of the cuts to BBC funding that Cameron introduced was for the World Service. They removed main funding from the Foreign Office, it is now funded from the BBCs general budget. I hadn't realised that they had been topping it up with

Could you point me to the vim deck you used? I've generally taken the "learn as I go" approach but I'm sure I'm missing loads of good stuff that I don't know I'm missing.

This gets to something I've been wondering about, what is the winning condition for Russia now? Perhaps I'm wrong, but I don't see the ukranians giving in any time soon, they seem determined to fight for every inch. The cost

What do you class as early? For me anything earlier than 6.30pm is fine for helping me sleep, but keep portions sensible and be strict once you finish eating.

I actually don't skip any meals. I have three small meals. Some people go the whole hog and just have one meal. However I would say delaying or skipping breakfast is definitely the easiest.

There's a classic Planet Money episode all about how behind the US is with inter-bank transfers. The huge number of often small banks in the US did seem to be a very significant part of the problem. Here in the UK we have many fewer ba
