The Hitchhiker's Guide is such a good meditation and exploration on the randomness and ridiculousness of the universe. Personally I would recommend the original radio series rather than the book, I think Adams was a better script write

I'm honestly out of the loop these days, what are the worse alternatives, in the sense of their impact on society? I feel like Instagram is utterly toxic in the materialistic ideals it spreads, but TikTok mostly seems to have been fair

It's a different kind of conspiracy argument, but it reminds me of the point made by moon-landing sceptics that all the photos are too well framed considering the cameras were chest mounted and hard to use. Of course the reason for tha

You say "No software project cares"... but I'm sure there are pieces of software out there used for dealing with historical/archeological data and have to deal with stuff like this :) I would not want to have to work on

I like this. I've seen a number of "Falshoods programmers believe about X" and they almost never provide examples or explanations, which is rather frustrating for some of the more obscure or weird cases.

Lots of people other than shops take money. There are lots of one-man businesses or tradespeople who take credit card through services like SumUp which require a seperate device paired to their phone. For people like that this will be very

Hrrrm, so that comment was badly formatted for some reason, I think I should have put a blank line between the two cases in the second paragraph which should have been a two item list :/

This is why I like to ask people to talk me through a change that I think I don't like, or might be wrong, before passing judgement. One of two things happens in the process of them explaining: - they know something about the context t

Ok, that's interesting to hear. The december update really did seem to be a big screwup. Hopefully they will learn some lessons for the QA processes. I think I'm going to keep my current phone going until the iPhone 14 and Pixel 7

It seems to be a case of lots of variety in your diet, ideally lots of different vegetables, nuts, pulses etc, and cutting down/out highly processed foods. Variety seems to be the spice of life, quite literally. I've just finished

I keep being tempted to replace my knackered old Android and the current crop of iPhones just seem to reliably produce great looking photos, especially of people. That fact that the photos come out looking great with almost no effort other

Thankyou, I've been trying to come up with an analogy for the pointlessness of the current NFTs, I think the buying land on mars, or "buying" a star might be the one I was looking for.

I kind of miss when the UK had much stricter Sunday trading laws. I'm not religious, but there was something kind of nice about having at least a part of the week when pretty much everyone was off work, and most things were closed. Of

Yeah, this is my biggest bugbear. I don't know how it is in other countries but it's a big issue for me in the UK as we have a large network of little country roads that are frequently single (or 1.5) lane and poor visibility. I&#

While that's true, in many ways huge chunks of the fine art market exist purely as objects in warehouses, normally in freeports such as those in Switzerland, that are simply traded back and forth, often never seeing the light of day. T

The current top comment indicates that the model being used is calibratable (presumably by placing outside to work out the background rates). Of course this assumes that they will be properly calibrated by school staff.

Annoyingly some companies have started putting them in front of any customer support contact. It's incredibly frustrating. I'd much rather just a menu of options. I just don't understand the problem they are trying to solve.

Sometimes I think the thing I want more than anything in the world is the time to spend 15 minutes making a coffee in the morning. I feel like you've just given me my new life goal, a career and lifestyle that enables that.
