The only up-to-date information I've found so far regarding the storage system for this beast is: * 250 PB GPFS * 2.5 TB/s I'd like to find some information on the burst buffer that is sitting between compute and the capacity

You could always pick something you don't know much about but are interested in, then blog about your learning process. Chances are you'll present it in a way that helps someone else learn it, who either appreciates your presentat

It appears that you want to make a very simple statement: "Abstractions tend to introduce overhead. If any software layers, an OS, or a network are added on top of a block device, I/O overhead will be introduced somewhere." A

This reminded me of a task I undertook sometime last year in which over the coarse of the month I attempted to delete my accounts on a number of sites that I no longer used. The experience was completely crazy. It ranged from a few sites th

As a general rule of thumb, I would definitely agree that increasing the number of abstraction layers should be done with consideration to performance concerns. Interestingly, in the latest version of Ceph the abstractions are a bit differe

Not that this really has anything to do with FoundationDB, but why do you say that object storage is a poor substrate for file and block abstractions? There are many high-performance block and file systems built on object storage.

I'm trying to figure out what the basis is for the implementation of the sorted map. For example, in related project https://github.com/orium/rpds they explicitly note that they are basing their sorted map on Okas

We've added Lua scripting into the Ceph distributed object storage system that lets you remotely compute on objects, or create I/O interfaces with new semantics [0]. I've been excited about WebAssembly as a replacement since

good point. my hunch is that the only way would be to duplicate work and check for consensus. it seems like there isn't any way to cheaply validate results for any interesting work.

This is a great direction for a certain class of problems, but to call this a general approach for building a super computer ignores the biggest challenge of all: communication performance. The leadership-class super computers have large bu

I believe that one compelling use case is to avoid the overhead of cross language boundaries (ie JNI) when the native code is compiled to bitcode and run with Sulong.

I'd be interested in reading, even if very high-level, some additional details about Keevo. I'm most interested in what the API exposed by Keevo looks like, how it's utilized, and what parts of it are nice/lacking.
