I'm skeptical that any kernel-related news was delayed for announcement during SC. But a lot of the hardware related announcements (e.g. the RHEL on ARM etc...) are probably timed since SC has a major industry expo.

Here is a link to a talk I gave last month describing how to use Lua to generate thumbnails remotely in the Ceph/RADOS OSD servers. Talk is from Lua workshop 2017. Relevant content begins at 15m40s. https://youtu.be/bGQ

It is definitely easier to sell "oh this is just an esoteric part of the tax code that effects a small percentage of people. You know, we are just moving around when they pay taxes it's not like a tax increase or decrease".

The log is mapped onto a distributed storage system, so fitting it in memory isn't a concern, though effective caching is important. The index / database also doesn't need to fit into memory. We cap memory utilization and res

Thanks for the explanation, and I definitely agree with all your points. The reason I ask is that over the past year or so, we have been hacking on a little side project that maps a copy-on-write tree to a distributed shared log ( https:&#x

This is so interesting. Maybe once every couple years, I'll have a vivid memory of the IRC days back in mid to late 90s. I always try to find some record of it. The name of the group I associated with, and the nicks. They are right on

What is the primary reason people choose Datomic? From reading the website, I get the impression that the append-only nature and time-travel features are a major selling point, but in other places its just the datalog and clojure interfaces

I spent several summers working at Los Alamos National Lab in their HPC group on I/O, among other things. Supporting legacy codes was a requirement, even if it meant that we couldn't explore obvious and important optimizations. I

I believe that Psilocybin is legal in Jamaica, see https://www.mycomeditations.com/ . Since it would seem that large numbers of people visit South America to attend Ayahuasaca retreats, one may assume it is legal there. And

Applications using MPI-IO are still typically run on top of a parallel file system. The MPI-IO API is, in simple terms, intended to create I/O workloads that should perform well on top of the POSIX I/O interface (e.g. large, seque

After digging into Graal and Truffle I was really impressed to learn what its vision is and what it is capable of. Then I discovered the Eclipse OMR project, and while the later is written in C++, they sounded like they have similar goals.
