The fellow who is being named in this particular PR has been _quite_ busy lately, submitting mostly typo fixes and whitespace fixes: https://lore.kernel.org/lkml/?q=f%3Athunder.leizhen Sometimes their patches aren'

If there’s a pattern of them submitting a ton of these kind of patches, that could be viewed as gaming a metric. Huawei might, for example, be assessing kernel developer performance partially on # of upstreamed commits, and I guess that’s w

They’re still going to be reviewed, and if the cover letter says “typo fixes” and one of the patches fixes more than a typo, that would be an instant red flag. A single bigger patch set is faster and easier to review.

Now that these differences are documented, are they going to have to be maintained forever? Or is there any chance that the Apple ABI could converge to the AArch64 ABI over time?

Depends on the object. As OP notes, `make_shared` with weak pointers is fine "if the base object has a relatively small memory footprint after it's been destructed". There's lots of cases where the object itself is big,

Very tangential, but the very slight angle on the “Memory Safety” highlight threw me for a loop. For a moment I wasn’t sure if it was actually slanted or not until I zoomed way in to confirm the slant. That’s distracting as heck and I can

And, if you want to literally run the bytecode, there’s that little issue of nested blocks and block start/end tags…a proper WASM CPU would have to perform parsing in order to handle any form of control flow. (Alternatively, you could

Not to nitpick, but wouldn’t some of the same arguments against virtual functions apply to function pointers in C? The kernel uses a lot of “obj->obj_ops->foo(obj, arg)” calls which are similarly dependent on the precise type of obj.
