Second this, I am extremely happy with CarPlay on my Mazda. There are lots of physical controls that just work naturally with CarPlay. No need to use touch controls!

Google Maps for CarPlay has never shown me any ads nor bothered me to report any accidents. The phone app does, but never when I'm driving. For what it's worth, if Google Maps isn't what you like, you can use any other map

My Mazda disables the touchscreen once the vehicle is going more than ~10 km/h, yet CarPlay is very usable. It's got a physical knob that rotates through the various on-screen widgets in a fairly predictable order. Most of the a

Out of curiosity, which manufacturer? I suspect that CarPlay quality varies a lot by manufacturer; e.g. it sounds like GM really never tried very hard to get their CarPlay implementation to work well.

We had narrowed down our car choice to one of two vehicles a few years back - and the deciding factor was which one came with CarPlay standard. It's so invaluable for us - navigation is great, voice input is excellent, my wife and I ca

Tangential, but why are people so terrible at redaction? The PDF at https://quad9.net/uploads/URT_05_12_2023_en_Korr_MH_en2_2e62... literally just drew black boxes over text that's still copyable :(

But this was only necessary because the binary packages for py310-cryptography did not exist on MacPorts for your platform at the time you did the upgrade. MacPorts therefore had to build from source, and that necessitates installing the co

This isn’t a great article, tbh. Most of the complexity is from compiling the Rust compiler (and its “large standard library”) from source . Of course that’s going to be a complicated affair, because a production-quality compiler is not a

People have been developing “safer” C/C++ extensions for literally decades. Very few of them have caught on, and those that did are usually in niche applications. Rust is the best shot at a safe C/C++ replacement language. Buffe

To be completely clear: most of the long install process and crazy list of crate dependencies is due to building the Rust compiler toolchain and Cargo tool from source, which MacPorts does when it cannot find corresponding binary packages.

Hah, if you’re referring to the fact that repetitive digits show up in 2FA codes, this is a great example of a randomness illusion. Of the 1000000 possible 6-digit numbers: 151200 have six unique digits 453600 have five unique dig
