I'm lucky to be in a lab with enough funding for this. This is rarely the case. In medical science it's easy to get large grants and pay programmers in something like biology the programmer is usually that guy that learned perl since he's a

This is so true. I work in a research lab and I'm trying to interest myself more to the science and it's really helping my coding work. It's easier to improve software when you know what your users need.

That's not even worth wasting time at answering. Look Google doing a great job of rebranding it's services. Google already had video chat for a while now. If you have gmail you have video chat. I don't get why facebook is just getting aroun

Yeah that's the issue in Canada which has Netflix but the selection is so attrocious it's not even funny. All this because for Netflix it's a pain in the ass to have to negotiate for the same content in all the jurisdictions and that media

Ruby virtual machines. MRI is the VM for ruby 1.8 (Matz ruby implementation and Matz is the creator of ruby), YARV is the newer incanation that was developed for ruby 1.9 these are all written in C. There plenty of other ruby VMs like rubin

Why not? They have plenty of different areas they are in that would allow for most people to find a niche I think. If it wasn't for the stuff I'm doing right now, which I find extremely fun, I would apply. My only concern would be the issue

Well they could just charge for premium accounts, I for one would pay 20 bucks a month for a Google sub with support. Google Apps isn't exactly affordable to the average person and I bet the support options are pretty horrible.

I think this is what they are expecting, when people outgrow them they will just move on to some other service. Sucks for the users but Google is trying to cater to the masses I feel. Most people aren't maxing out their GAE instance counts

I feel that's probably the issue too. It's been said on a bunch of submissions about Google. I've seen it 4-5 times already. It was a clever comment but it's an oversimplification.

Yeah it seems a little distanced from reality but in a way if that is motivating her to be better than I guess it's not a bad way to go about it. I mean as long as it doesn't make her action discriminatory why not act like the world is agai

But we are talking about a show that is now 20 years old. I do have to say that the quality of TNG and ST in general isn't matched by many shows today and it should command a premium. It's still the most expensive DVD show I'v seen.

Keep going it gets better as of 3rd or 4th season. The magnificient seven ferengi (not sure if that's the correct title. In it they want to save quarks mom) episode is the funniest ST episode of all times.

I like the new dark bar at the top. It feels like an application now ;p I don't know why it just feels more integrated to me just for that. It's not much different then the previous bar they had but whatever I guess it makes me think of the

The thing that is hooking me in Google+ is that it's just my google account. I don't really have to think about going there unlike the other services. And what killed Facebook for me was the UI. When it became too cluttered I just got tired

The idea of single sign on isn't bad, it's just a pipe dream with all the services and crappy software accumulated over the years.

I wouldn't be so sure. One thing that working in government has taught me is that the bad contractors seem to be equal or greater proportion to the good. They would bid on something if they weren't going to find a way to make more than what

They would just call up the federal reserve and have them print money. When accounts close down it's money that disappear from the money supply that the fed would replace.

I find that problematic in a way. If in a murder case the defendent was given immunity for him to say the statement "the body is buried at xyz" would the corpse being found using that statement be used against him? I can see this as still i

I don't buy this at all. First of all, the GPU is a sandboxed environment. I don't know of way to successfully go from shader code on the GPU to actually take over a machine and get elevated privlidges. Secondly, Flash (and I believe Silver
