The EU has long been run by neo-liberals, so they actually choose the policies deliberately.

I'm not American, yet almost all Tech companies have inherited this Identity Politics culture. It feels like such a huge step backwards to have scholarships, fast track programmes, etc. rule out great applicants solely based on their s

My entry level software job was $35k in 2015 in London! Outside the US, jobs across the board paid a lot more before 2008.

'91 would be better though - better salaries in a lot of jobs, and lower house prices. GPS on the phone is awesome, but I'd still prefer financial security.

You'll still get like 10% of a US salary though.

Bear in mind Sweden was forced (i.e. no referendum, etc.) to accept over 5% of its population as asylum seekers, etc. It's a huge shock to society and will change the nation forever.

150k+ starting salaries when the rest of the world never reaches that even for senior engineers.... right. The US is the most privileged country on the planet, just look at the per capita CO2 emissions with their private AC and swimming poo

Yeah, it seems so awesome. And using the Personnummer / BankID to allow all the registration online, etc. Lightyears ahead of the rest of Europe.

Nand2Tetris and Roughgarden, looks like an excellent syllabus tbh. Unfortunately it's pretty worthless without a paper degree. It's cool that Finland is now having open online registration for Finnish citizens to do online courses

I guess his point is that the we haven't seen a big community fork of the code with FOSS games being released, etc. There's been a handful, but nothing like the flurry of Unity games, etc.

How close is the Pinephone though? The Raspberry Pi is "usable" as a desktop, so I can't imagine the PinePhone being too different?

It sucks when you need to buy / move furniture though. I really miss that side of the freedom in the US. It's also much easier to drive in the US due to the huge, straight roads.

But the issue is when you can't afford a home. Here in Sweden the average price for a flat is like 400k euros. And then those are usually in a shared building so you can't "just" install air conditioning even then. The h
