> In exercise: drop any gym memberships, use things like body weight to train. Run one day, do yoga the next. This is a bit like the avocado toast nonsense though - a gym membership costs about $50 a month which is nothing compared to th

Inflation will wipe out that cash though. Honestly, it's hard to give advice since it's so specific to the region and job market, etc. Like many US engineers can easily afford to buy a house outright with $200k+ salaries, that isn

Appeasement would have been to allow the LPR and DPR independence and cede Crimea before all of this even started. To avoid devastation, needless deaths and the mass exodus of refugees. Now even if the war was over tomorrow it would take de

Why can't they just ban the crypto exchanges already? If Canada is willing to freeze the bank accounts of protesters, it's definitely possible.

I'm not saying it should be done for free, but they could do a much better job in funding engineers. It was awful when they let go the Rust and Cranelift engineers. Reminds me of Oracle - where the lawyers and MBAs have just seized con

Look at Canada though - what is considered "criminal" can change overnight and then suddenly the government is freezing protesters' bank accounts.

I pay 40% income tax (56% marginal), 25% sales tax, 35% electricity tax. It means 80k doesn't go as far as it'd seem, especially with increasing interest rates. Considering Americans are on 200k+, it just doesn't compare.

Yeah, Sweden is anti-progressive. As a worker I pay ~40% income tax and 25% sales tax. Meanwhile there is no inheritance tax, relatively low capital gains tax (or none on ISK accounts), and low corporation tax. It's designed to preserv

It's a pretty similar system in Germany and Sweden at least though (I haven't lived in France). I moved from the UK to Germany right when I had to have surgery and the wait time was identical (scans were much quicker though as I l
