The Free State Project never got the 20,000 signatories that the idea needed, and so it dissolved. Some people, not liking this failure, decided to move to NH anyway, and have perpetuated the "free state project" for the past decade by ign

One of the terms of this agreement is that any Honduran citizen has right of residency in any of these cities (provided they agree to the cities rules, of course.) So, I don't think there will be jealousy that aliens are getting a better de

Is Hong Kong a "Libertarian Utopia"? In some ways, yes, but it probably isn't what people think of when they see that phrase. But that's the idea here-- to import the models that work elsewhere into a new location and let it grow. I hope

It should also cost a karma to downvote someone else, maybe two. Upvotes would remain free. This way downvote might go from "I disagree with your well reasoned contribution" to "this person isn't contributing to the discussion."

Yeah, makes me think the opposite. When you talk about it, it sounds like they don't care about design (or maybe even don't know what design is .) Nokia has made good products in the past, and I do hope they will succeed in out designing

The chart is derived from nonsense too. The article is sourced from an "Analyst". Analyst is a fancy title for a pundit who is paid to have an opinion by some industry figure. In this case, most likely Samsung. These analysts post "repor

I submit that we are talking about a physiological issue, not a preference. Attempting to hit a target in the middle of the screen is more difficult for humans than hitting a target at the very top of the screen. When you overshoot the targ

This is samsung not following USB standards. OS X has perfectly find support for media devices, and has worked fine with every digital camera, SD Card or other card reader, etc, that I've attached via USB in the past decade!

I've been using OS X going back to the betas. I've never seen OS X have problems with third party hardware that conformed to standards. I have seen problems with third party hardware that required its own driver (poorly written generally)

You can't name innovative things amongst a crowd that rejects that innovation can happen. They'll tell you someone else did it earlier, even when they didn't. For instance, cars were not an innovation according to hacker news, because Hors

Right, because the people who use linux don't understand what design is. Look at the responses to my comments-- almost all of them defending linux make comments that show they don't understand what design is. They think it is how it looks.

That's my point. It's not that a lot of people like it. In fact, whether people like it or not isn't really relevant. It's that this is the correct way to do it. When the menu bar is at the top of the screen, the user is much faster at

You just confused a design patent with a utility patent. Frankly, I've personally not yet seen an anti-patent argument from someone who actually understood what patents were, how they worked, etc. They constantly confuse terms, misrepresen

I think he's right, but I think he's missing a key point. Design. Design is what killed the linux desktop. It never had it. OS X has it. Even windows, crappy as it may be, has it. Before I go on, let me say that Design is NOT "making it

Repeat after me: Patents do not cover ideas. Patents do not cover features. Writing about an idea or a feature in a computer science journal is not prior art. Star Trek has the warp drive. So, if someone invents the technology to give us
