Been using Chessable (chessable.com) for chess improvement and it really works wonders. The format is great for chess, especially for learning openings or for tactical situations where there is a clear best move.

Stockfish's evaluation function is; though; ultimately a floating point accumulation of such decision processes. In fact the leaf level scores are themselves floating point. eg. check out the scores here: https://github.com

I've been using https://chessable.com for learning chess openings, tactics, strategy recently. It's spaced repetition forms of chess books and also courses made specifically for the platform. It works quite well.

https://chessable.com is pretty great for actually practicing the stuff from books!

Actually the only experience you can experience is your own, IMO. Reading a tweet is you having an experience involving someone saying something and you interpreting that and maybe imagining what they experienced, but it's different fr

A pretty great example of "microworlds" from Seymour Papert'a "Mindstorms," which you would enjoy!

Code is always written with "indentation" and other things that demonstrate that the 2d canvas distribution of the glyphs you're expressing actually does matter for the human element. You're almost writing ASCII art. The

Your secrets are not safe by embedding them in a binary. Compilation is not (necessarily, and at least so in the Go compiler's case) security...

can't your security params be read out of the binary in any case? i'm not sure how binaries offer more security.

Smalltalk's OO and Java's OO are pretty different. If you get a chance to play w/ Smalltalk's (say Pharo) you should try it out!

I think our narrative surrounding survivability optimizes for some types of things (things that have coherent identity over time). eg. "a snapshot of a tree in time" lives less long than "a tree" (many snapshots-in-time

RHA TrueConnect is the best AirPods alternative I've seen. Fits different ear sizes (this was my problem w/ AirPods -- RHA's come with many sizes of covering, including one that you can shrink and expands inside your ear like

I feel like the main thing to work on here is the frontend, given the "debug." library built into Lua(JIT). ZeroBrane has a frontend, for example.

This is an iPad programming system I was hacking on a bit ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQUq2INrdiU Also involved is me live-coding a fix for the system in itself (like you would in Smalltalk envs).

Have you actually used Lua? You don't need to iterate to get the last element of an array.

Sorry for the late response. Yeah I mostly played w/ it in 2015 but I think Pharo was the most modern option then and there were good resources like "Updated Pharo by Example" (a free book).

Interesting. I might give this a shot. Do you know if CFFI stuff works -- so that I could use eg. cl-opengl or cl-sdl2 -- if you somehow statically link stuff together? That's what I do w/ LuaJIT for example. Or maybe LispWorks ha

Really wish SBCL ran on iOS. :( It's the only one with the perf I want. But like compilation at runtime on iOS is a no go so ... yeah. LuaJIT in interpreter mode is p fast tho.

C++ IDEs and Smalltalk / Lisp visual environments are in very different leagues. It’s worth giving, eg. Pharo Smalltalk, a shot.

Cool makes sense. Could actually still be awesome to have a Lua lib or some other runtime lib that can translate Pallene or some other type-annotated Lua format to plain Lua, just for typechecking and ability to use autocomplete etc.

(Maybe trivially answerable by looking through the resources, sorry!) -- will Pallene still support `eval`-like behavior (like with Lua's `load` function(s))?

Some benchmarks of graphics stuff was faster for me in SBCL vs. Love. Going with Love still, but yeah.

In some of my own benchmarks, was indeed able to get better perf using SBCL for some graphics stuff vs. Love. I particularly want to run this stuff on mobile though, so Lua / Love is the way to go!

perf is important but I also want user scriptability (as part of the actual app feature(s)). Love2d uses LuaJIT (it does use the C API to bind its native calls rather than the FFI -- but actually that has better perf when not JIT'ing).
