Yeah I think it does end up boiling down a lot to use cases because the big differences b/w Lua and JS are in availability of libs / integration and perf. In my case I do a lot of 2d graphics where love2d.org is available and perf

Lua doesn’t really run in browsers (except with emscripten or WASM? and also fengari (Lua interpreter written in JS with interop and GC sharing)) but for http luasocket / cqueues / openresty libs are good, and for servering also o

In my experience LuaJIT in interpreter only mode has better performance than using JSC (you can’t use JIT in JSC either — only WKWebViews can JIT). (edit: sorry this is regarding iOS)

Because `.foo` means `[‘foo’]` and because you can easily make sequences out of them (if you write `{ ... i1 = v1, v2, ... }` then `v2` automatically gets the “next” natural number as a key) the ergonomics make them usable as structures and

I think what you’re looking for is that languages are more language when they are interpreted by something that looks more like a VM, and interpreters are more VMy when they have constructs that look like “if” and “load from memory” (lettin

I think it can add to behaving with them well because we can use the tools of empathy, which is natural for us, to decide how to work with things we deem capable of empathy (often to some extent by anthropomorphising). This is why we create

I’ve managed to do this with direct access to the JSC C API — you could probably write an interop w/ Obj-C / JNI.

For widgets it's not just calling to iOS that matters, but being able to render the widgets as part of the painting process, which Fluter does as a completely separate process from how iOS renders. So to integrate it, you'd need s

The point is that a Dart library can write a parser for XML, but if XML was the only supported format, it's hard to go in the other direction. Also if you read example Flutter code, you may notice that their UI spec DSL-like is 'd

Dart compiles to machine code plus the rendering is mostly impl’d in Dart so you can change basic things about the rendering in Dart, FWIW. In general the dichotomy you’re painting b/w scripting and native languages can hold, but the d

Well, all information transfer involves indirection by name, so what you’re getting at is that this lies on a spectrum where the words use are “heavy” and involve lookups where the definitions aren’t in the reader’s cache already? I’m point
