> And fleecing audiophiles is just good clean fun anyway My dad ran a small manufacturing business in the 80s, one guy he did a lot of work for wanted a small batch run of spikes with a top thread made from titanium. My dad did the quote

Hah I had the same experience, I thought some idiot had recorded it via their soundcard line in or something. Eventually got the better mastered version which was leaked from guitar hero or something.

Worth noting that the "tape recorder" was reel to reel not mainstream compact cassette. Reel to reel usually ran the tape almost 4 times faster with over 3x wider tape vs mainstream compact cassette, so it was very high quality.

Exactly - the easiest way to prove this is you can record Vinyl to a CD, do a double blind test between the Vinyl and the CD copy, and you can't tell the difference. Vinyl forced better mastering.

Would be interesting to see the finances for a large farming operation, but I would guess the fuel costs are probably not a major expense vs the cost of the machinery itself and the impact of not being able to run it all day with quick refu

I think more people are wising up and doing the ROI on unpaid overtime. Thankfully I did it within my first few years in the workforce, I worked my butt off for a project, got a lot of praise but a disappointing bonus, calculated my overall

Its an interesting idea as the biggest problem where I live is the cost of labour to repair. By the time you get a serviceman out to take a look, order the part, come back and fix it the cost is approaching half that of a new machine. I

Dyson are the worst, their BMS is terrible and just disables the pack with minimal cell voltage variation.

Braun seem to have the charging circuitry and battery sizing perfected now, my toothbrush is approaching 10 years old now and still works like new.

where I work there are controls to block USB media devices, they block certain software publishers (eg. cant run firefox), all sorts of annoying things.

Most Windows compliance tools are seen as a tick in a box so ease of use and low effort deployment is often the most important thing. I'm sure you could achieve similar results with Salt but it will be some bespoke contraption requirin

Adding to that, even the scam call centres have a corporate hierarchy, they have the lowest paid staff doing the initial grunt work to try and hook a sucker, if they are successful they then handover to a more experienced scammer to close t

Something like saltstack is not in the same league as point and drool windows solutions.

My corporate win 10 laptop does all those things fine when WFH. They just set it up, couriered it to my house, gave me my password and off I went. It does all its GPO update, carbon black policies etc. over the VPN exactly the same as if I

Seems like its a pretty good filter to me, anyone not adaptable to a different operating system is probably not a great fit for a company like gitlab.

That was the only real benefit of having a mac in my experience - they were always a niche and off the radar and didn't have the 20 different security tools on them crippling performance like the Windows SOE. Thankfully WSL2 on Windows

Now you are thinking outside the box! why don't Hyundai just use a potentiometer to control the motor. They can even make it go to 11 on the performance spec.

hmm not sure how this benefits over something like vxrail that's a supported turnkey solution, but I guess will wait for the 3rd party reviews to come out once it ships.

Yep, but it still sucks if you are a user trying to figure out how a setting is applied, first delve into some seemingly proprietary config db for edge, and then realise its actually configured via a registry gpo.

Yeah I'm not arguing for or against their product, just genuinely curious to know what differentiates them from existing blade servers hosting kubernetes or something.

Typical blade servers are around 10RU in size and have similar function of shared powersupplies, backplane, network etc. so 0xide is like a massive full rack sized blade enclosure so all blades can talk to each other over fast interconnects

I did have a read of their website, but it reads a bit like a kickstarter campaign with lots of vague statements and no details. At this stage I'm unsure what benefits it has over a blade server managed by traditional api like snmp.

Interesting to read some of the hype around 0xide, it seems like its just some software ontop of a blade system?
