You’re paying for guys who tear up the same street all day, every day, for years, and then leave it looking like a patchwork of sloppy, half-finished jobs. I lived on that street for ten years.

"you might have actually made a well-formed argument". I'll leave you to pat yourself on the back. The downvotes don't bother me in the slightest.

Don't worry about the downvotes. Freedom of speech is a pillar of American society, until you express doubt about their unassailable exceptionalism, at which point the censure is relentless.

Writing Japan off is another favorite pastime, I notice. What most impresses me about Japan is their ability to weather the doldrums of their current economy, and still have a higher quality of life than Americans do. How well do you think

The premise of this headline is that the USA is indisputably in the lead and that the winner is whoever catches up the USA. After spending years in Asia, my impression is that there is another game being played entirely, and the USA is mere

Indeed, I see all that traffic because I block it all. I still doubt that the ROI tracking is useful for anything other than direct online sales.

A compare/contrast between Aeon and Walmart would be fascinating. I've literally never seen the inside of a Walmart, so I'm not qualified.

Aeon mall in Nagoya, Japan[1] was my primary daily grocery and pharmacy for years. Aeon's format is pretty much the same as most suburban American malls, but they seem to run a tighter ship and do a better job of vertical integration.

I get it. I like ads in Japan because they're entertaining. You're the first person I've ever hear of who enjoys being a target of online ads, so I'm still convinced that you are very, very unique.

FWIW, I am not trolling. FB domains are deliberately blocked via my hosts file, and my business has nothing to do with consumer ads. I am just a skeptic of intertuption advertising effectiveness in general, and curious to see how rigorous t

I think so because the entire history of advertising is based on hiding the ball in terms of ROI. How many sales does a Super Bowl ad generate? How many does a billboard generate? For some extremely simplistic e-commerce conversions, such a

OK, so how is the success of that funnel measured vis-a-vis other promotional channels? And are you able to demonstrate definitively that a visitor from FB concluded a sale? If so, how?

I will answer your question with another: what metric are you using to measure ROI? Edit: When you say you know lots of "marketers and advertisers" that are making money from ads, are you referring to resellers and providers of ad

And yet, advertisers still have no meaningful ROI, because it's never in the platform's interest to overachieve on this count. And, users are still very much annoyed by distracting, irrelevant, or overly-targeted ads.

You're right. I wonder how the alliance partners will handle charging stations. I know from living in Japan that Nissan chargers are at nearly every dealership lot, and many parking garages have charging areas.

I think there is a kind of Goldilocks syndrome that many programmers fall into. The opposite of "too magical" is having to sift through 48 custom implementations in StackOverflow and 192 npm packages to answer questions like "

It seems like a miserable way to enjoy your good fortunes in life. I'm sure many successful people can't get out of their own way, and this is just another case of never being satisfied.

Mac usage is a metric for sophistication? What a silly set of comments. People seem to grossly underestimate China. That hubris will only hurt you in the long run. Half or more of the stuff in those “sophisticated” computers is sourced in C
