Well there is historically quite solid Alpha to be gained from the dead simple strategy of buy and hold. That's just another dead simple strategy after all, yet plenty of people recommend it.

Hmm, you could use that argument to dissuade all of scientific research. Science is zero sum, if we devote resources to it then you are taking them from someone else! But at the end of the day we all know there are significant potential be

I would of taken it and given it to a charity. Instead we get a silly HN comment.

Depends on your needs. Personally I hate Svelte's data model and how it changes the semantics of your code by injecting state handling (it's a mental burden). If you are basically writing blogs or very simple content this is pro

It’s fair because it’s based on consumption, or the value you extract from society. Not what you contribute.

A sole proprietor isn’t a corporation. I get the 20% deduction as well but it only applies to self employed individuals. All I was saying is I don’t think they have tried cutting corporate taxes other than the main corporate tax rate on pro

I’d take my states 2% tax rate over free file. But this is way off topic as the discussion was about the irs.

Synchronizing with a bike computer, connecting to sensors (speed, power, cadence, some hrms), triathlon features, battery life (although the ultra here is OK, but nothing like a fenix), strava live segments are a few that come to mind.

Right but we were talking about an irs free file which would not make state returns free either.

This looks really neat, but it feels like Apple isn't very keen on biking? I don't think I could replace my Garmin with this until they get better support on that front.

Not payroll and other taxes. You are talking taxes on corporate profits.

I bet I've spent more time discussing taxes on HN than actually doing my taxes in the U.S. It really isn't that big of a thought, and I have a small business so it's even more complicated.

But if that is your situation it's actually really easy and free to file your taxes today. Meaning a couple clicks and done. I'm all for an IRS solution but let's not blow this out of proportion.

Depends on what they are spending it on. If poor people are buying food & housing it would be tax free. If they are buying large screen TVs maybe not so much. But even then the claim was that prices would come down eliminating most o

The FairTax proposal improved on this by providing a rebate to everyone to cover tax for essentials. It also removed taxation on businesses which would likely cause prices to come down. There were many benefits and their research showed t

It was a private student loan in the 90s with no asset backing it. I was in school so did not have to make payments at that time. The truth is I should of never of been given the loan as my parents had very little income and no significant

I've been poor. Six figures in debt with less than $10 in my checking account. I know what it is like. But there are plenty of accounts in the U.S. which have no minimum balance and no fee. You can have $5 in there.

Honestly I don't know why anyone would lock all their money up with a single bank. Accounts are so trivial to open and manage nowadays. Diversify not just your investments but also your fiat holdings.

I love the cold and winter. I'll run outside when it is -30F with the proper clothing. But damn, we keep our house at 60F in the winter and I often wear a winter hat inside. 39F in the house is nuts. Not to mention you have to be c

Exhausting in the time sense. I don't have much free time and the little I do I value a lot. Even if it is a few blocks that's a 30 minute trip each day. Sure it can be fun occasionally, but I'd hate to do it regularly.
