The primary point of standup is to make sure the team gets face-time together every day to talk about their shared workload. Humans are social creatures and getting everyone together for a few minutes is a pretty high ROI activity.

Could you clarify? If you're starting from nothing and your goal is strength I'm not sure what could possibly be more efficient than SS.

True, but I would say - if you're serious about it - once you've graduated from Starting Strength programming you are already very strong, which is the goal.

Switzerland had a very active and well trained military during both World Wars. In fact Swiss neutrality is at least partly rooted in the historical role of Swiss mercenaries -- it was a lot easier to sell your mercenaries if you weren'

I've heard a lot about Bridgewater and frankly don't understand how they hire anyone. If you're smart enough to get offers at top-tier funds surely you'd rank BW last because of this (very public) insanity. Have they jus

Personally I try to find work where: 1. I'm the only FE dev, with a strict separation between BE and FE work (and a BE team that's happy with this arrangement). 2. I'm given the keys to the castles in terms of technology and

As someone who works primary in a functional language I'm pretty convinced that most of these types of things are elegant solutions to self-created problems.

I used the goog.* stuff once upon a time. I remember using it outside Google meant bundling it with a .jar built by a single guy that hadn't been updated in years.

As someone who used to use React and now has to grapple with an in-house web framework: hooks are right on the money and offer tools backing some of the best devex in web right now.

There are externalities with this approach. A big issue with clothing donations, for example, is they put local textile manufacturers out of business. Why buy locally made whatever when you can get second-hand name-brand clothing for cheap?
