SA is basically 4chan except you have to pay 10 bucks to join. I don't really see the joke here.

Good for you but it's hard to take you remotely seriously when you try to relate SA and high quality conversation.

Haha if you pay for SA it only suggests that you are a sucker who paid 10 bucks to post on SA for a couple of days before getting banned. They are very ban happy there.

I don't see anything wrong with that logic. It's not like I'm going to be using code that I wrote while learning in the future. And it's not like learning Prolog (or Python 2) will make me unable to learn other languages

If the weights are only 1 or -1, and each neuron can only get 16 inputs, then this is more similar to neuromorphic systems like IBM's True North than regular neural networks. And True North consumes on the order of 70-100 milliwatts.

That's not the point. The point is there is no reason to use an extra language feature unless it provides a tangible improvement in the code. In fact, there are lots of reasons not to use an extra language feature that doesn't pro

Tradition? ;) I only use python for deep learning, which is not really that intensive in terms of code. Also most of the code out there for deep learning works on both python 2 and 3. Also, your phrasing invites the question. Why on earth w

For me, it's as simple as python is not a moving target. Whatever new changes there are in python 3 doesn't affect me since I won't be using any of the new features even if I were to use python 3.

Yep Broodwar is the only non athletic sport I've ever followed. I used to barely play broodwar but I watched it all the time with my friends. All the excitement and commentary and so on was fun. Then blizzard came out with starcraft 2

Reminds me of the APL interpreter in Julia ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVv1GipR5yU ). The APL code gets translated to Julia data structures, which is then mapped to Julia code, which is then compiled to machine code via

I agree with this so much. I miss reading thoughts by independent people on semi-esoteric things instead of filtered conversations on filtered topics had in vote-based sites like reddit, HN, and pretty much any other news aggregator. And I

Yeah, point taken about my bias. Dealing with python via jupyter has been my biggest source of frustration with python. But there are still plenty of cases where you will come across python via a bad interface, such as a shell interface to

But in the majority of editors that actual people use (mainly, jupyter/ipython), they are invisible. Not to distract from my point though, which is that a good programming language should be easily editable from Notepad.

Because small invisible changes in the code text can result in actual changes in the logic of the code.

My point is that you should be able to code python using Notepad but it is impossible to. Yeah, when multiple people complain of the same thing and you make up more and more complicated solutions for the problem, then you know where the pro

I don't really see how you can justify your position, except as someone who finds code easier to read than math. People like that are mainly computer science people, who have had years of training staring at code, while there exists sw

Bro, literally every language does indentation. Python just does indentation badly by making it syntactically significant. Also. If you're going to come back to me with the argument that it forces people to use indentation, I've g

x = numpy.linalg.pinv(A) * b There we go. Code is math; just math that is encoded for computers. I think the problem is programmers who are not used to reading math. The problem is not math, which is meant to be read by humans.
