You just linked to some random study from some random journal in order to support your statement, to make your statement sound like it's truth. [0] is an article from Indian Journal of Medical and Paediatric Oncology. No idea what the

I installed the O&O ShutUp program, which lets you disable updates indefinitely.

I actually disabled all updates a while back because of stability and driver issues when I had auto updates on. Things are a lot better now and I don't have to worry about Windows restarting on me while I'm busy working. Probably

It does help with the problem I replied to, which was code written in C. Auto indenting that code block would indent the `someotherstatement;` line correctly and I would notice that mistake. Anyway, single line if statement is a flaw in C&#

Not really. p therefore q implies not p therefore not q is a very basic logical fallacy. Making a statement does not imply it's inverse.

Does no one have auto indentation in their editors? Every so often I just select the block of code I'm editing and auto indent it, which matches indentation with semantics without me having to think about it. Annoyingly impossible to d

I think that's how it got so popular. It gets taught in school as a first language because it's "simple, beautiful", etc. and people stick with their first language as people do.

It's not really that surprising. The chess world has embraced computers as much as they can be expected to. And Kasparov was world champion, which means people value his opinion about chess.

You can look at piece value as a heuristic for the strength of your position. The problem with purely positional play without regard for material is that you could miss some tactic that forces exchanges and suddenly you're down three p

Academics regularly get away with just posting results as graphs, without even the actual numbers in the graphs given out. And certainly not data, code, etc. I've done that for multiple papers in top journals in my field, and lots of o

I don't buy your analogy at all. I think a sex obsessed culture is a result of an overly sexualized media. And it's not like I'm saying ban sex. I'm saying ban pornography and prostitution, which are abuses of sex.

At least we have a decent argument here. That regulating something might lead to even worse consequences. Then the discussion should be on which is worse, a world where it is made illegal, or a world where it is regulated, or a world where

That would be really awful. The winner of the tiebreak would have a huge incentive to go for a draw. In chess, it's a lot easier to go for a win or draw than try for a win at the Grandmaster level. This would only increase the likeliho
