Interesting take on mobile payments. There are a few questions that aren't answered on this project page though. 1. Does a 'recorded' card count as a card-not-present sale? 2. What about card skimming? I would think this sort

Your progress bar active areas have two percent signs in the width property, which breaks them (at least for me) to all show 50%.

I've done some research which involved the perceptual effects of latency, so I was interested in the test rig from their video and found a paper they published in ACM about it: http://edgey.com/wp-content/uploads&#

Try a quick-drying ink from Noodler's, such as Bernake Blue or Bernake Black. I'm a big fan of the Platinum Preppy with an o-ring to seal the whole body allowing you to fill it with ink—it's dirt cheap and writes very well. I

If I'm not mistaken, they're using a mirror to redirect the rear iPad camera for the floor view. iOS doesn't let you access both cameras at the same time so that's out of their control.

Will, I'm curious about the latency of this setup. Could you get someone in the office to control the Double while having the Double pointing at the computer screen? Maybe with a clap at some point so we can see the source of the sound

Funny you should say that; I would still buy one of the older models rather than buy from the current lineup. Maybe some surprise will come from the next Kindles that will change my mind, but I've evangelized the Kindle Keyboard 3G (it

I see the same thing on an iPad (iOS 5.1), where a screenful of items show but everything after the scroll is invisible... until you hit the spot where the comment link should be and a few more items become visible.

Can anyone involved in this project shed some light on how altitude is controlled?

No welding involved—beyond problems of forming poorly-performing alloys (already a concern and the reason for plating orders to get some PCB finishes), the heat of welding would certainly delaminate copper from the board substrate.

At the beginning of this video I thought this was going to be a Kickstarter project where a non-functioning model is used to sell an idea... But this guy actually built this contraption! Very impressive. Are there spokeless wheels like th

It's far older than the 90s, but that's a product largely of what old papers have been digitized, and minorly on the terminology—I think you'll find some papers that say 'cognitive work load.' I recently fixed up an old bit of scientific a

I really like ThinkPads, but I think if they count rotating the logo to face up while open as a new feature, they should also include the feature of memorable model names. T431s? That's a SKU, not a model. Lenovo is experimenting with it's

I think the ideas quickly presented near the end of the video (~1:30 onwards) are the most exciting part of this project. Right now, text entry using a video game controller isn't exactly pleasant, and there are no shortage of use cases for

This looks useful, but I've got a suggestion from a cognitive ergonomics standpoint: smooth scrolling. If a user clicks 'next' and the next step is not on the current screen, pretty much the best cue you can provide to build a contextual un

There's a very unfortunate [dead] comment by Intermernet in this thread. Unfortunate because it might be a good solution for someone who administers the affected hardware and wants to remove the backdoor after patching (as per the Workarou

There's a good reason to require proper page numbers: citations. Right, and I have even seen page numbers in citations of theses. It wasn't common in my field at least, but it happens. For a journal citation, generally page numbers tell y
