Here's a similar algorithm you can play around with, implemented in Javascript + Canvas: http://alteredqualia.com/visualization/evolve/ HN post here: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=392036

Such passwords are certainly secure, but it's a pain to have to carry Keepass/other programs around when using other computers. I think I've found a happy medium by memorizing a simple password-generation function in my scripting language o

Pretty incredible what can be done in the browser these days. Anyone find out what happens if you get 100%? I only managed 58%.

Seems like that's a result of jacked-up medical fees, not insufficient insurance.

That brings up a good point. Die-hard Star Wars fans have been begging Lucasfilm to release the "unspecial" editions of the original trilogy for many years. IIRC Lucasfilm claims the original negatives were permanently altered when the spec

Neat, I've been using Win8 since the first preview was released and I still learned some new tricks. File History, for instance, looks handy if you can afford the storage space. And I wasn't aware you could refresh from a user-created image

Wow, I was a little unimpressed with the results until the text deblurring at the end. It was so crazy, I had to go back and actually read the article instead of skimming it :)

Not very relevant, but gee, wouldn't it be nice if spoken and written words were isomorphic? Think of all the frustration we could spare children if every time they heard a word, they could figure out exactly how to spell it. Once they mast

Awesome! Most of the file transfer sites I've used before required uploading the entire file before letting you download anything. The ability to stream is a big plus. Is there a limit to file size?

Indeed, there are some very exciting prospects here. The replacement therapy seems most promising. I developed a number of cavities out of the blue after I began aggressively using mouthwash - my theory is that I had a mostly benevolent str

Ah, I love folklore.org. I devoured every article on the site in about a week. Really makes you wonder what Apple would be like today if Burrell and Andy had had more power to override Jobs (see the "Diagnostic Port" story).

This is really interesting. Makes me wonder why I bothered generating those hard-to-crack passwords if they can easily be reset by a bit of sweet-talking.

I don't know if "grid" is the right word; from the video it looks more like a jumble of IDE cables. Very cool though! Understanding the brain is one of the most important tasks we have yet to conquer.

Not going to lie, that controller is looking pretty ugly. Any word on if they'll support USB controllers? Obviously you'd lose the touch functionality...unless you plugged in a Wacom or something, lol

indeed. The scales of computing technologies have increased by many order of magnitude in their history, and it has never been "enough." Bill Gates infamously demonstrated the danger of predicting how much RAM/Clock speed/Bandwidth/etc. is

Not sure if this is at all relevant, but a judge ruled in 2005 that distributing GPL software for free is not anti-competitive: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wallace_v._International_Busine...

Gotta say, I wasn't expecting this result after the opinions expressed in the comments of the original Ouya HN post. Maybe HN just likes to grumble about everything.

Do you think that a professional programming language based off a spoken language would be feasible if it were based off of something like lojban? It would be pretty neat if the distinction between code and language could be blurred.

agreed, they definitely seem to be targeting the more "casual" audience. But who knows, if the whole "shared kernel" thing has some practical benefits for businesses, we might see more widespread adoption.

Have you actually used Windows 8? I don't make much use of the metro apps, but there are lots of smaller improvements that I appreciate, like the new task manager, file copy dialog, login screen, etc. The sight of the new start screen inc
