Criminally minded employees are bad for the bottom line in retail. Criminally minded employees are good for the bottom line in finance. The firms in question will filter accordingly.

GPT-oss-120B was also completely failing for me, until someone on reddit pointed out that you need to pass back in the reasoning tokens when generating a response. One way to do this is described here: https://openrouter.ai/

I'm an engineer. I don't think I'm overselling the impact of them, I called the majority of them useless lol. I agree with everything else you wrote. Especially the bit about over promoted project managers. That's my thi

I purchased an Onn TV from Walmart for $25 and am very happy with it after 2 years of using it. Amazon is sentencing the Fire TV to irrelevance with these dumb decisions, just like the Fire Phone.

This is what we get for installing mandatory government backdoors all over our communications infrastructure. Unbelievable that such a critical piece of infrastructure wasn't secured properly. But after the OPM hack and the bungled imp

I had the exact same experience paying developers in Serbia. It was pretty eye opening to how unreliable something fundamentally important like wire transfers can be, and made me appreciate crypto in a new light.

Last I looked the TiKV Redis layers hadn't been updated in years, and were missing many Redis features (such as streams). https://github.com/yongman/tidis https://github.com/distributedio/tita

I've used RocksDB a lot in the past and am very satisfied with it. It was helpful building a large write-heavy index where most of the data had to be compressed on disk. I'm wondering if anyone here has experience with LMDB and ca

I've been wondering the same thing. However you would have to have a very large database of embeddings for this to be useful, right? Otoh I can see this being disproportionately helpful with reverse Engineering Rust and Go binaries, wh

For the mainstream OSes (Windows, OSX, Linux Android) You don't need to flush the instruction cache on most x86 CPUs after modifying the code segment dynamically, but you do on ARM and MIPS. This has burned me before while writing a bi

I’ve been using Triton a lot lately to make sense of heavily obfuscated code. The ability to translate a symbolic “trace” into an LLVM bitcode listing is super useful. You can do a lot of optimizations from there easily to recover the origi
