Apple is going through the same awkward phase as Microsoft did with WinXP. Except unlike what Microsoft did, Apple has not started a decisive internal process to change things for the better.

I love how after 6 months working for someone he is happily blogging about it and he isn't ashamed about it even in the slightest. If I saw he'd worked for someone for 6 months only then I'd want to hear a good reason why he

Somewhat worrying that they are feeding DeepMind a diet of DailyMail articles! Maybe this is why Skynet turned rogue. Reading daily trash about celebrities and body image dysmorphia inducing trash, is enough to make anyone go mad.

Seems rather pro-biased towards Java. Case in point: 1. Not a single mention of its main competitor .NET. 2. Not a single mention that as Java becomes more and more closed source and proprietary, under Oracle's stewardship, .NET become

I should have known throwing in the SV comparison here would cause this tangent. Oh well. The point is really that this was a Show HN post about a little hack someone put together in probably a single weekend. And with a totally unproven pr

Of course you can. Singapore isn't an Islamic state you know? It has some alcohol curfew laws yes. No public space drinking after 10pm. But in a bar which has tables/seats on the street; that's fine.

I don't apologise for cutting to the chase. I took issue with the pricing model and suggested a way that, I think, would be better suited. There is a different between those types of users, yes, but frankly that is a nicer problem to h

I didn't get the drug angle either. Most countries of the world are harsh on drugs. Even in Thailand or Indonesia, I do believe, if the corrupt police desire to, they can throw the book at you for smoking something they deem on that oc

I've been living in SG for a year and the startup scene here is asthmatic at best. Really, it would be generous to call it a "scene". It isn't. If you can document all the startups in a country on a single infographic th

F# has a compiler flag to force it to use OCaml syntax parsing. It basically amounts to just being a strict mode. Because F# has very slightly more forgiving syntax than OCaml; but essentially almost identical. To call it the .NET OCaml is

Dave Cutler is the real stuff of legends. Obviously this is my opinion but I admire him and his work far far far FAR more than anything Linus Torvalds has done. Arguably, Linus' greatest work was Git, not Linux. Linux is, architectural

Sigh. You can't blame hardware when it's an as-new MBPr. Every Mac lover seems to blame it on something else when it is just a crappy OS that is the root cause. On Windows it is extremely rare - maybe once a year, but you'd h

The beachball on OSX frequently causes the whole UI shell to freeze solid. This literally never happens on Windows. Also all IO on Windows is asynchronous. It doesn't support synchronous IO.
