It's important to document and archive the contents for liability reasons, but the takeaway here is that you should remember that the laptop belongs to the company and you have zero rights to privacy on it, so conduct yourself appropri

I get to see the crazy stuff people do on work laptops all the time. After letting one guy go for poor performance, a quick scan of his machine showed he was spending a majority of his time reading and commenting on incel message boards.

That's better, but still far away from a significant useful amount. When I bought my first place in 1999, my downpayment was $12K which fit nicely in the allowed amount. Not so much anymore.

The problem with that is it only allows a maximum of $25K, which in Toronto's market barely makes an impact on the downpayment.

HN is a tiny monoculture community catering to a niche audience. Of course the discourse is okay, there's almost no disagreement.

I spent nearly a year interviewing at various companies and never landing a job despite decades of practical, relevant experience. It was extremely demoralizing and worrisome, and I believe the majority of the issue was extremely difficult

A separation at this level reverberates across many levels as it will effect the lives of thousands of people. Makes me very curious as to what exactly happened.

I suppose it's a personal preference but after nearly two decades of using OSX I find Windows unusable and clunky. Linux desktop is still a tinkertoy.

Apple quality and design, especially in UI, has been steadily declining for over a decade. This is just another example. Unfortunately the alternatives are even worse.

There's a lot more to IT than just ordering equipment. Also, no finance person in my entire working history ever knew anything about managing a network. They can barely use Excel in my experience. The flip side is that no IT person I

I'm fairly confident that there's more to it than just studying something for a long time. Some people simply never grasp a concept despite years of study.

I'm curious to hear how JAMF makes open source difficult. As far as I can tell it mostly just allows provisioning and preventing you from running certain apps, so it's about the config you put in place and not JAMF itself.

Then why didn't you pay to get in sooner? The option is available. The argument here is about whether socialized medicine is better than the horror show that passes for medical care in the US. I contend some small delays on non-life-

For my particular issue I wasn't too put out. If I had wanted faster service I probably could have paid out of pocket to get it. The point is, the system works. I never have to really worry about healthcare or its costs.

I have a primary care physician who I can book online to see usually within a few days, or if I choose one of the other oncall doctors I can see them same or next day. I recently had a referral to a specialist for a non-emergency exam that

I "stayed behind" because I didn't qualify for an H1B visa due to being self-taught, but now 25 years later I'm glad I stayed here with my free healthcare and high standard of living. Yes, lots of talented people leave

The main problem with this is that the streaming platforms don't offer any way for streamers to do it legally. For instance, Jack Danger is a pinball streamer who does the newest games, and Stern just released a Led Zeppelin game, and

Lots of decisions are made for arbitrary and, frankly, obtuse reasons. Often on a whim. I would just like to give the new distro the best chance to succeed. Clearly I seem to be in the minority, however. I guess time will tell.
