In my experience the thing men have a problem with is not having too technical hobbies or too much focus on task or whatever people say. We just never learn to be vulnerable and nice. Just by opening up and having real conversations and tel

The thing about this quip is, it applies to the plebs. The owning class gets our free lunches all the time. This is a joke about being on the outside, not about the grit of reality. It makes those proclaiming it sound submissive, not edgy.

Yeah the early internet was a public facility funded by the government. They chose to privatize it and it became a cesspool of advertising and corporate rent extraction. Very lucrative, created a lot of profits for American corporations. Wo

Seconded. I don't want to veer into victim blaming here but live streaming from my home where I have a publicly registered business address sounds to me like a bad idea.

I'm sorry but everyone getting up and leaving a public place because of one person shouting fire is not and should not be the same threshold we expect the police to have for a full on military assault on a residential area.

LLMs will go the way of the 'expert systems'. We're gonna wonder why we ever thought that was gonna happen. I just recommend you don't pidgeonhole yourself and an AI professional because it's gonna be awfully cold o

In my corner of Europe the cool kids from the business course all start some sort of bottled drink company. Getting picked up by the big supermarket chain is always commemorated with cringe LinkedIn posts.

James Watt's patents stalled steam engine development for about 20 years. There was a sudden burst of innovation after they expired in 1800.

You're being downvoted possibly because of the tone, but there's something to what you're saying. People keep creating toil because they want to re-invent databases or distributed systems when we already know how to do them p

I think there's a problem in starting with such languages. It fills the mind with vague and subtly wrong mental models that are hard to change. I know a lot of developers who can't see beyond the text box where they have to get so

I'm with Dijkstra on this one. Teaching people these simplified languages full of magic and which encourage all sorts of bad design decisions by omission cripples their mind.

I don't see any contradiction. Both things are true. Best software might mean most profitable (coming from a software maker who makes a living out of software, that seems likely). No one is getting paid to create 'the best design&

I think you don't understand enough physics, maths or cs if you think there's a way to draw a neat line between any pair of them.

That doesn't hold up to a reading of the history of maths. So much of it was invented by someone just noodling around with numbers and would find some use in physical science hundreds of years later.

There's no free market. Therein lies the fallacy. All markets operate and depend on clearly written and well enforced legislation to function.
