Well, yes. But Contextual Design, by definition means building something for a specific user. As you say, its a first step towards the the pc-free, cloud-enabled, dev environment. The 'cringe' factor will always be there with new things!

What you have done here is an HCI study. On yourself. You could formalize this with related models and write a paper on it if you wanted.

Well now I can honestly reward myself for picking the University of Waterloo. All of the points made by this article are well understood by second+ years of Waterloo Engineering. How? The coop program i.e. the four month work then four mont

So is the guy I'm working with but he is a couple of layers above the transistors...more into FPGA/Systems/Logic CAD. I understand your point; only wondering why use 'hardware' and not 'electronics' - from a business development perspective

Very NICE! I've heard about you guys but never tried...yet! A question if I may: Any particular reason for calling yourselves a hardware company? Wouldn't electronics be more appropriate and familiar to the people checking you out?

Excellent! It has an implicit deadline AND its actually relaxing. Surfing the net, unless its social, does a little to relax your eyes, your brain, or your body's posture. I don't have any physiological proof but moving away from the scre

Well, I'm also to be blamed for this exaggeration. Last night I also posted one of those links on HN. Sorry about that, reading stuff at 3 in the morning isn't such a great idea after all.

Knock it off, maybe. Find new friends? That seems silly. Grow a thicker skin and joke right back at them. In times like these, you can barely hang on to your own skin.

OK a bit harsh but speaking from experience: You can adjust the surrounding (yes, it does help) but nothing is going to get done till you make the decision and the plan to do it. Clean you room, it'll work for 5 minutes...maybe even a day a

I did read the last paragraph. IMHO, Its too cyclic (link wise) and ambiguous to be of much use. But if it really was what the authors main agenda was, then props to them...except why in the very last paragraph? What is everything before it

Miraculous? So what about NEXT and Pixar? Apple the second time? They were also just strokes of miraculous luck? I disagree. Of course it takes technical talent to start a company but that doesn't mean you need it to make a big/good company

Explain Steve Jobs please. Sure he went and sat in some courses but only for a limited time and only when he thought they taught something he liked, like calligraphy. Doesn't that imply that school is but a matter of interest? So if your

I think so. Debt is not even the biggest concern. My biggest concern is the mentality to avoid failure at all costs. Since the world's reward system isn't structured to always reward effort, school (imo) teaches you to pass, not excel. And,
