you can use ublock origin, it has a setting for that. It's pretty much a necessity for me to disable JavaScript and images until i manually enable them. The modern internet is a mess

i thought that story was about 3 programs that were missing, a text editor being one of them. I'll have to check because my memory is failing me atm.

I just experienced this as well. I had a giggle when I opened a new tab and searched "is duckduckgo down" and the default search engine is ... duckduckgo. Still no results .. strange :P

ctrl+scroll on Windows generally scales the text only. Even the built-in magnifier is extremly clunky and zooms only to 200%, 300% ...

One great feature on laptops' trackpad which is hard to get on a mouse is the pinch-to-zoom thing. It zooms you in without changing the layout or anything.

In a developing country here. For people below 25, the majority are only familiar with smartphones. I think this comes down to the versatility of these devices(Camera, media consumption, browsing social media, ... ), and sadly that is most,

I still use the Galaxy S8 with a 5.8" screen as well. It is actually quite amusing that nowadays this is considered "Small phone". I find it to be the perfect size and refuse to carry a brick around with me. Good thing in my

This is a terrible take. Just because thieves exist we should all lose the right to repair our own stuff if we so choose? If they want to pair parts that's fine, but not providing the calibration software or whatever is NOT. regarding

if OP is reading this, HN also exposes an Algolia search API. Perhaps they could investigate if it would give them an easier time with their analysis.

I am now realizing an app I was working on had some "vulgar" function names in tests. they've been changed, but they're still there in version control. I just hope no one looks at the history of tests...

Compact mode is a must for me as well. When __new UI__ released for Android Studio, I didn't enable until they later rolled out the so called compact mode.

I have tried to use Canvas on Android to draw some custom view (chart). I still have a PTSD from that experience. I have an exceptionally great amount of respect for people who can do this sort of stuff.

Bad guesses will result in programs that subscript out of range, which is caught at run time. That is sadly not always the case.

I think a related, but often overlooked question is: is there really a need for remembering things off the top of one's head? Since there was no need to look it up, perhaps it's not relevant to whatever one is doing at the moment.
