Even if mainstream media had a left wing bias - which is a big stretch in the UK given that it's mostly owned by Rothermere, Murdoch, Barclay and Marshall - why would that prevent reliable and neutral media from existing?

Similar. Was over a decade ago. Not easy, but gradually gets better. Sorry to hear about it, it's not something I'd wish on anyone.

The doorcam footage is clearly in broad daylight, it's dated February, and further down the article it says: > At around 1.30pm last Tuesday ... a detective sergeant and another officer knocked at her door You've made some edit

I don't think they came in "the middle of the night", full stop. That's just another embellishment you've pulled out of thin air. I think if you had a strong case, you wouldn't need embellish it so.

Thanks for relating your experience. Wow is it hard to get any concrete figures on questions like "how many takeaways did an average household get per week in 2004". Also pretty tricky to chase down the references from the article

You're right, I apologise for not reading your post carefully enough. Whilst pure monopolies are rare, my impression is that surprisingly many markets consolidate to an oligopoly, and that this reduces competition and is generally pret

Yes, it's Gauss. In fact the technique is sometimes known as "Gaussian summation". The New Scientist has an article where the author chases down early references to the story: https://www.americanscientist.org/

I think you have OP's comment the other way around. They were saying that markets will naturally tend to fewer than 3-5 competitors, and only prevented from getting there by antitrust.

I have an object representing piecewise linear functions, defined by a sequence of (x_i, y_i) tuples. It has a method to evaluate y for a given value of x. The first step is to find the least i for which x_i is greater than or equal to x: t

It's a good question. A related question is: "what's an example of something undeniably novel?". Like if you ask an agent out of the blue to prove the Collatz conjecture, and it writes out a proof or counterexample. If t

I was born in the 80s in the UK. When I was a teenager, my family had a takeaway meal delivered every Wednesday night. My dad would ring up the restaurant, tell them the order and our address, and pay the driver when they arrived. It cost u

Market consolidation usually leads to higher prices, and it can certainly happen with 3 big players dominating a market. AirBnb is an interesting example. My gut feeling is that the service fees (and cleaning fees, bizarrely) are climbing a

Hippos famously cannot swim, despite spending lots of time in water. They're too dense to float. There used to be a BBC filler video in the UK that featured an animation of hippos swimming from below. It was pure fantasy. In reality th

Graham writes in punchy sentences. But I often find the overall thrust uncompelling. He has a habit of waffling whilst glossing over nuance. I suspect you're right: writing for entrepeneurs is a slightly different skillset.
