I hope not. I just started my MSSWE program at 36. If I didn't enroll in an academic program, family life and full time work would keep me from making the transition.

I recently landed a position, and I'd suggest that you look on Glassdoor.com to see what impressions candidates are getting about your company from browsing there. Are the salaries competitive? Do the employee reviews make it sound like a n

FM200 systems do go off for small events at times. I managed a team of datacenter facility specialists up until last year, and we'd seen issues like: FM200 dumps because underfloor smoke detectors notice smoke from a CRAC condensate pump (p

That's so frightening. I was thinking of this exact thing as a business idea on a road trip this weekend. Comfy chairs, a cash bar, maybe pool/foozball/darts. Companies could rent space out for interviews. You could rent rooms to hang out

I completely agree with this writeup, but I believe it depends on the child. Some people feed off of the energy and creativity of outside influences. As an introvert, however, I get overwhelmed over time of being unable to quiet my mind. Th

I wish you guys had openings in the DC area. I've been interested in this stuff since college, when I would try reverse engineering using Fravia+'s tutorials. That's how I learned assembly programming.

Thanks for posting this, OP. I'm saving this to read in detail later because we share much of the same frustrations (though I would never call myself a loser). I reached the same epiphany a few times, but have always been too comfortable in

I agree. I wouldn't be surprised if someone threw something together after this post. As a new programmer, I love to read posted reviews of code.

I researched the 4 Cs on google, then bought a ring on ebay. It had a 7 day return policy, so I scheduled an appraisal for the day after I got it. Paid a few thousand. Appraised for 4+ times as much as I paid.

That's so awesome. I had an idea a few years back that I called [in my head] "RSS Radio", and today I learned it exists. You're starting off my 2013 right. :)

I just turned 36 and have recently felt a similar way, though I wouldn't go as far as to call myself a loser. I distilled my understanding of that dissatisfaction down and realized that I'm always consuming nowadays (video games, reddit, HN

I often hesitate to chime in on a discussion like this, because my response is based on Myers-Briggs Type Indicators, and a surprisingly large number of people consider the MBTI as useless and lacking scientific foundation. Regardless, here

I think hristov's theory holds up just fine. I think the initial drop was short sales by people anticipating that exact situation.

I know nothing about python web programming, but I'm hoping to get deep into it very soon. I wanted to point out the framework that I'm planning to use, because I hadn't seen it mentioned in this thread yet. http://www.web2py.com/

I did the same with our C64 around the same age. I never call that "beginning programming", though, because it took very little problem solving on my part, and doesn't come close to what it takes to make something usable nowadays.

I learned about linux back in 1996 and tried LFS in about 2000. It helped me immensely in understanding what I'd been playing around with.

I'm on Reddit all the time, but never on HN. I just visit occasionally (just now created an account to post this). I'm so happy I found this post (until it gets lost in my sea of bookmarks and I don't get to try any of the solutions).
