Hmm, I would say comparing Hacker News to DoorDash is not exactly apples to apples. There may also be ulterior motives to make a website slow(or at least not optimized) if the company wants to funnel people towards an app on the phone.

This seems more of a process problem than a tooling problem. Without specs on what the feature was, I would be inclined to say you manager had a lapse in his "smartness", there was a lot of miscommunication on what was happening,

The irony of you talking about natural language is that hardly anyone would understand what you just said. I would pin it as AI slop but I guess that wouldn't be right of me to assume.

Abstraction has always been a part of programming. Are you going to deride someone for not remembering how to write a sorting algorithm from scratch when .sort() is available? This is just another instance of that, trivial as it may be. The

Why not just compare the incidence of sickness at the swimming event vs other triathlon swimming events and see if 2(or whatever the number of competitors affected was) is abnormal and work from there?

Ah yes, the classic “because it can” argument. I’ll take that to mean you don’t know what you’re talking about.

What is the basis for it having a reasonable understanding of fluid dynamics? Why don’t you think it’s just regurgitating some water scenes derived from its training data, rather than generating actual fluid dynamics?

I think this is assuming that the model doesn't get better through additional training or feedback, but it seems to me that reward/punishment is actually what drives better prediction over the medium/long run. Right now we ar

Surely Amazon would implement redundancy where an AI from a different region to the one that is down would take over. Not sure I follow why "blaming" someone is necessary to move forward with recovering from a failure. In most w

The whole comment is a bit non-sensical, so I am not sure how to respond. If you are not from the US, you should know that social security is not an option, it is a mandatory program. Things like 401k plans are tax incentivized, and as we k

Many still have the desire, but today have the choice to walk away from that desire in order to pursue a career, or to just live life in a different way. Some also have the desire but have trouble conceiving, or don't have the means to

200 years ago the average life expectancy was 30, no one was having children to "future proof" their life. Quality of life today is much higher than it was 200 years ago as well. While the cost of having children is undoubtedly go

I would argue the opposite, that LLMs are not good at creating novel scenarios which span multiple domains, or sub-domains. That is where creativity plays an important part. Of course an LLM will spit out something that might look like a vi

While your last point is certainly an ideal to aspire to, something tells me that the powers that be would not actually want to get rid of booms and busts, because ultimately that is where a lot of the “wealth” for those high up is created.

This is ultimately what some of the risk comes down to: you invest time(a decade is a long time!) into creating meaningful relationships at work and one day you come in to have your key card de-activated and some corporate speak as to why.
