Probably the issue is that access to water (for cooling) correlates highly with access to water (for human civilization).

Not every crash is physically avoidable _given a time constraint_. When you're a millisecond from impact, there's nothing you can do. One second, there exist many cases where there's nothing you can do. 10 seconds before impe

Set a timer and watch it count to 10s. It’s a long time. Remember, people fall asleep while driving cars pretty regularly. I know people who have fallen asleep driving on the freeway, woken up in the median, and just guided the car back o

”Wrong way down an express lane” is super contrived. Those are the kinds of clear cut issues that self driving is guaranteed to be better at than humans.

On the contrary, I’d challenge anyone to find a non-contrived example of a crash that is unavoidable with 10 seconds of warning. Driving off a 1600 foot cliff does not count.

Correct, this is what I’ve observed too. It’s stunning to me that the big tech companies - Amazon comes to mind - aren’t writing colleges big checks in exchange for “produce us people who can function in real life teams”.

10s is basically an eternity in car time. Pretty sure I could wake up from a nap and boot my brain enough to drive in 5s or less. A car going 80mph can stop in around 4s.

Wow, I always thought I had abnormally early memories, but nothing like this. Do you have these memories only from being very young? Or are the glimpses there from infant up to now?

Is there not a fundamental difference between Tesla and MAGMA-type companies? MAGMA, and the industry in general, produces software. Software doesn’t care about its location, and you can “touch” the product you’re working on from home. Tesl

What’s “reputation” mean on GitHub? If it’s “valid looking commits to valid-looking repos”, it’s very trivial to fake that. You can fake the timestamps, too.

Man, if they had been building stuff instead of propping up their stock price they could have done crazy stuff. They could have built a factory in Texas bigger than the Pentagon by now. Oh well, too bad they’re not building stuff.

Importantly, the carriers need the iPhone more than Apple needs the carriers. AT&T losing their iPhone privileges would hurt them far more than Target or Walmart would from losing their PlayStation privileges.

Apple has way, way more clout with retailers than Sony, simply because Apple can live without its retail partners. Sony definitely cannot.

In Sony’s defense, they have much less of a direct-to-customer channel than Apple does. They’re at the mercy of their retail partners (which they don’t directly control) to fix this problem.
