Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance was a HN favorite, but seems to have dropped off the charts. It's not exactly CS, but covers the topic of tech and quality.

I'm in the SEA area working with a company that's legally US based. Never tried Remote, but 110% happy with Deel. We reevaluated our options recently too and Deel came out on top.

Off topic to the AI, let's talk about websites for a moment. Lately everyone has been using the same "glitch design". Bright yellow on pink, some out of place eye. Stripe uses this but not as much as other sites. I don't

I've been using AI to call people and do product interviews. It's expensive, but still cheaper than a human doing it. AI's also a lot wittier and actually fun to talk to than a human. I'd dump it on that. You'd prob

There might be a misunderstanding here, as it seems similar to other arguments. I'm not saying evolution cannot create eyes or intelligent life. I'm saying evolution cannot create mobile phones. I'm not saying evolution does

Doesn't matter much. What works for me is it's easily skimmable. Rather than say "fix the command widget", it's better to say "command widget fixed". Because if you do verbs, most of your commits will star

The easier explanation is a higher power seeded life here. If you find a functioning phone on a beach, you don't just think a bunch of silicon molecules just evolved into a phone over millions of years. Someone is manipulating those mo

Often the 20% is polish, and it's there because it brings sales or may be the differentiator. There's going to be something that gets redefined and that's where company culture falls.

I avoided Zed (from the creators of Atom) for this reason. Sometimes people learn from their mistakes. But it didn't seem like they were embarrassed of it. Plus they're a AI company too, and that alone lends itself to feature bloa

There's a trap to be careful of here, because your estimate now is 1.5 months, so it's actually going to take 3 months. The general rule is 80% of the work takes 80% of the time, and the remaining 20% takes 80% of the time. Try to

People dumped a heck lot of money into crypto and NFT. At least AI makes some sense. The difference is, stocks are not the same kind of asset and something as simple as DeepSeek shakes it up a lot more.

I was mentoring at a hackathon this weekend. Someone asked how they could integrate a certain open source pentesting agent into their tool. I asked them, "Well, it's open source. Instead of making a bunch of adapters, couldn'

Yup, I'm surprised by the quality of the list too. Day 1: Autodesk, stripe (spain), zoom, but also plenty of junior roles, contracts paying $100+/hr. Lots of companies I never would have considered. Finding mobile jobs and hiring

I like it, nice and simple. I guess we could do a script ourselves, but $1 makes sense and I'd probably donate if it catches downtime a few times. It probably acts as a quick test too, in case we break something while pushing to produc

I think Show HN is more for complete products. Also for the website, I think it's a little overdone with the animation and color. The screenshots are not enticing and doesn't explain how the product makes life easier. It feels lik

I would actually love to make AI games. There's so much room for more player agency. We thought it might be something like some CYOA or AI Dungeon, but maybe it's closer to Balatro.

Check out YC cofounder matching: https://www.ycombinator.com/cofounder-matching I met quite a lot of ambitious people in there. Many don't read the forums. Tech people get 1-2 emails a day, probably more if in the US.

Facebook is a really good example of how sites can just grow on grift and negativity, then clamp down on it later. There was a time when the FB feed was overwhelmingly "help me water my crops in Farmville". Zynga became a unicorn

That's a given. Many tech jobs still pay well enough to have a luxurious life. Some jobs pay more because they have to. The biggest nightmare for me would be seeing 7 years go by and accomplishing nothing.

$20 pays for about an hour of extra productivity per month. If you get that much, you have your ROI. Is that an hour not spent googling? Is that an hour of extra energy because I didn't need to sift through a 5000 line log dump? It

I'm happy with just fast, multiple cursors, plugins -> syntax highlighting. Sometimes I paste a JSON dump in there to prettify it. I refer to a lot of tools as knives, but Sublime Text is the chopping block.
