And there's http://xkcd.com/1758/ Although getting out the business of "mysterious stuff we can't detect" is very appealing, I'm reminded that the neutrino once had that status...

The Kepler equation solver is the standard Newton iteration, which is ok until e gets larger. The actual N-body simulator in gravity engine allows for better orbits and the integrator is configurable (Hermite, Leapfrog) and easy to extend.

I'm a big fan of orbiting problems. There are some cool references on your gitlab - I'll need to dig through them sometime. Now some of my "tooting": I did a quick JS Kepler evolver ( http://nbodyphysics.com&#x

Can anyone recommend a "cannonical" textbook that describes K-T transitions at an upper-year undergraduate level?

There is some great info at http://www.ridethetrail.ca/ . Many parts of the trail are on roads or have ATV access - which is not ideal for those who prefer human powered locomotion. A cross-Canada trail is an awesome goal -

If you want to tinker with gravity, you can try ThreeBody (Lite or Full) on iOS/Android. Disclaimer - I'm the developer.

Flagged by my Google alert on "three body". WAY more triple homicides than physics articles, but every once in awhile something good like this shows up!

I'm assuming it's the exam team member that wants to torpedo a student to show how smart s/he is by asking something tricky or tangential. I was lucky. My supervisor asked for recommendations for who to ask from the Math depa

I have been developing odd-ball physics apps (ThreeBody, Geodesic Asteroids most recently). I'd say I put in about 10 hrs/week => 520/yr. Last year my revenues were up 400% (to $88) with expenses of about $400 (apple devel

Thanks for the snippet. Working code is a good thing. I tend to rat-hole on the physics stuff, since I have a background in it.

As a fellow physics geek mobile dev (eg. ThreeBody, Geodesic Asteroids) I gotta ask: how are you modelling the gravitational force?

The mass of the "test particle" Cassini will cancel out of orbit equation but will matter for drag, radiation pressure etc. If it's outside the error bars they gave for mass, then this is conceivable. OTOH this is a pretty co

The most important part of this is to do the problems! After a PhD in theoretical physics then 20 years as a s/w developer I decided to get some of my chops back. You can read and nod about stuff but until you face a blank sheet of pap
