That said, I still prefer my X1 to macbooks. I find the MBP 15 heavy, the air has an atrocious screen. And both make my wrists hurt when typing - the edge of the laptop is too sharp. The X1 has a great screen (QHD), is very light and has an

The only software I miss is "Preview" on Mac OS. It's amazing for editing pdfs - merge, split etc.

I use the 3rd gen - agree it's possible to slightly bend it. I can only do so when open, with either screen or very slightly with base. When it's closed, I would probably need to step on it. A MBP 15 feels a bit more solid.

Agreed. Lenovo claims "up to" 9 hours for the 3rd gen X1 carbon, I get at most 5 under linux.

I had the XPS 15 for a few months. I found it very fast, gorgeous 4k screen, great keyboard - but heavy and with abysmal battery life. The touchpad was also meh under Linux.

I use one (2015 model), it's ok. The 2560x1440 screen works well (using 1.5 scaling) with unity, a bit less so with cinnamon, as it Cinnamon only supports integer scaling. Chrome has a scaling flag that is independent, that's a bi

Wow, that's hideous, thanks for sharing. I guess it's what you are more used to, European ugliness pains me much more than US. The sameness of US suburbia does not bother me much, as I didn't grow up with it. Also, at least t

I had a different experience with Dell - bought a second hand workstation from Dell and 2 weeks before it was 3 years old asked them on chat how to get a new restore DVD - they mailed it express the same day. They just asked for the service

Our artists used alienbrain at a previous job, while devs used p4. Except for the obvious annoyance of having to sync two separate repositories it worked well and neither side could be convinced to switch.

You can switch editions, add and remove sections (not interested in world or sports, interested in a particular sports team) and there is also "suggested for you". Not sure how it suggests, though it seems to work well.

not sure what you mean by "desktops" - their chips are the fastest CPUs you can get for notebooks, workstations and for many (most?) servers.

Yes, it was "forgiven" 50%, but at least in that book, the author explains that the process of how the original sum was calculated was that France asked for an unreasonable sum in the first place.

In "The Economic Consequences of the Peace", there is argument that the original reparations were make-believe and impossible. The 1929 revision was probably closer to reality and Germany did recently repay them. [at least accordi

Google News shows a snippet + link to original page, just like search. The difference is that it groups articles about the same thing together. I don't understand your argument.

yes, there was also "far", loved that one. I find the newer ones (especially total commander) much better than nc/mc.

I use http://doublecmd.sourceforge.net/ on linux, which is pretty-much a clone of total commander. I still like total commander better. As for open source - this one is, but it's written in delphi (pascal?) which makes

AFAIK all 28'' 4k screens are TN, that's why they are so cheap. If you want IPS, it's $1300 for 24 (dell), or $3500 (dell, asus).

Mine is that they were convinced of bribing in several countries and whenever they won a deal (they only went into government or municipality-financed things), they were more expensive than competition. I wonder how they won those.
