I asked #node.js on libera, and they put me `fnm` [1], after being finally being fed up with how slow `nvm` was--haven't noticed any differences other than now things have been really fast. [1] https://github.com/Schniz

Saving money definitely, but also delaying having to scale the hardware as long as possible. I'm at 3.5 TiB NVMe (raid 1), and it would cost another $52 USD/mo to add an additional raid of 1.5 TiB NVMe @ Hetzner, not cool. Gener

This makes me think of Comcast rebranding to Xfinity (USA); though I didn't really grasp what the intended reach of the rebranding to Meta will be from the last post [1]. It seems like it's for the umbrella entity, no product ren

Cool! This is the first time hearing about DuckDB, exciting as I heavily use SQLite. And these benchmarks are showing it's 6-15 times faster than sql.js (SQLite) [1], along with another small benchmark I found [2]. I usually just sl

Nay, there isn't one for the new M1 Max, but FWIW it's pretty comparable, but OpenCL is a bit faster than Metal. * MacBook Pro (16-inch Late 2019) - Metal https://browser.geekbench.com/v5/compute/3139776

The MacBook Pro M1 Max can be ordered with either 32 GB or 64 GB of unified memory. The geekbench report shows 64 GB of memory (maxed), not sure why only 42.7 GB is usable by OpenCL--so I guess we have to assume that's the max, unless

I love this idea of pub keys for connecting to sockets. I wish we could standardize on something, yggdrasil looks very interesting as well. > - universal human-assignable names Seems like if we wanted to add human names, DNS would work

I've been using Rust for just a little bit, building applications/services/scrapers/databases/forking libraries, but I haven't noticed these issues--the biggest compile time issue I had was including RocksDB.

Outside of tech, I think coding means green text on a black background--but I think of it more generally, describing a process that you want something/someone else to run... a cooking recipe for someone to follow, it's CODE! So y

The code looks really great [1], very declarative, looks like it should be pretty easy to add better PostgreSQL support. I also wonder if how easy it would be to plug it into VS Code, and build in an auto formatter (♥ω♥ ). At a glance it

Same, I switched to FireFox recently as well. Lol if they think they can make these changes, and remain dominant (speaking Apple as well), then they should look at what happened to Freenode. Personally, I'm really just lazy, but I ca

I feel like sanity is being restored. Maybe I’m lazy, but yeah I use PostgreSQL for everything I can. Zookeeper is great, but I’ve used PostgreSQL for distributed locking & queueing. Sometimes it’s quicker for me to write a 10–20 lin
