I would consider some amount of restaurants (of one variety or another) to be of some cultural importance. They don't need to be as prevalent as today, perhaps. But it would be a very different place to be without them entirely, and

The calculus is, what percentage of Americans can afford $15-$20 per sandwich on a regular basis? And how does that revenue compare to current revenues? edit: Though, this throwing around of prices is perhaps not very effective. Reasonabl

Syrup is cheap, water is cheap, C02 is cheap... for a fountain drink, you are indeed correct. The margins here are crazy. I assumed this vendor was selling bottled or canned soft drinks. Why that is, I couldn't say (just as I couldn&

Yeah... and here's a thing. I can write programs all day long at home. I could spend the rest of my life on personal projects if I so chose, and had the financial security to do so. If I somehow ran out of ideas, I could write softw

That definitely explains a lot; I thought $10/lb for the type of meat they were describing was kind of crazy (for someone complaining about margins, anyway). ~$6.30 USD/lb feels far more sane.

A radio host is just a person, not the government. There are limits being placed to combat hoarding and strict penalties against reselling on major marketplaces. Attempts are being made. But I don't think it's as simple as you s

It's bad in the U.S. as well. At least in Wisconsin, toilet paper, bleach, etc. Are nowhere to be found. Not in the supermarkets, not in the corner stores, not in the hardware stores... Milk, flour and eggs are also scarce. The limi

In the past, QuickTime (Pro?) was excellent for this sort of thing; you could just mark the section you wanted right in the player window and export a new clip. I don't know what the present situation is with QuickTime, and obviously

I'm not sure tab count is really a viable metric here. You'd think there'd be a strong correlation, but... On one Windows PC, I keep 2-3 tabs constantly open (may as well pin them tbh), and open/close others as needed.
