It's a well established fact that a much larger percentage of non-Western immigrants is unemployed compared to Western immigrants and/or locals. [1] [2] As I'm excluding the people inside that group who wish to work but can't find a job fro

I'm always surprised that people don't bring up the Netherlands, which essentially has a BI. If you see a homeless person on the street here you can be sure they're either a drug addict or a mental patient, both on the street by choice ra

You also have Red5 which is open source and rocks very much. It is just a -tad- less reliable than Wowza which you can't really sell to paying customers, but it's much more fun and customizable. And to answer your question, Wowza is just a

My ideal twitter account would be closer to this list of major world events for 2013 on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013#Events (found that trying to look up what I would consider the main stories of this year ;)

Your points are all good tips on how to run a 'proper' dev shop. I was more cynically referring to big consultancies that intentionally complicate/delay a mission critical project in such a way that every time the new budget runs out just

Many consultancy companies define a project's success in terms of money extracted from the client. You were probably given a poor performance review because it was actually your vocal opposition that endangered the success of the project.

I'd say this is true. I can count the number of times I watched TV over the past 2 years on one hand. The only time I miss it is when I miss some huge event (earthquakes, shootings) and my friends look at me funny when they realise I haven'

If you want to make international phone number entry work better, I've spent quite a bit of time thinking about that recently. I've created a draft proposal you're more than welcome to follow up on at https://github.com/mtrimpe/jInternatio

No. I did finish my sentence. I excluded everything that is a choice . Being discriminated based on something that you can't change about yourself is substantially different from when it's based on something you can choose not to. P.S. I

I used the general term as just that, a general term to describe a class of voices. I wasn't referring to posts that used that exact generalized claim. As for scientific manner; there's a lot being discussed on HN that isn't scientific. Alt

You can still find offices today that closely resemble that of Mad Men and in the 60s you could also have found offices that are as respectful of equality as today's average office. Why they chose this stage, and why it became such a succ

You're right that it's not specific to technology at all. It's better to think of it as the subset of sexism which occurs in the technology industry. Before downplaying the significance of this it's probably good to keep in mind though that

I really can't figure out why are women in tech so hard on themselves... From what I can tell Adria was a woman who misjudged the level of public support for her 'cause' and what was appropriate in 'defending it.' She crossed a line she did
