That's exactly what I thought as well. I'd very much prefer having the 10x engineer meme replaced by that of the 0.1x engineer: the one that gets the same task done with 10% of the code and effort. The times I've felt by far

In case anyone is wondering; this guide does wonders with GIF size reduction: http://blog.room208.org/post/48793543478 It helped me to go from 6 MB to 100 KB for my specific type of video to animated GIF conversion.

Indeed. Although the use of confluent data structures where possible combined with immutable data stores combined and 'live' functional reactive programming across device boundaries -would- drastically simplify cases like these.

Indeed. This isn't about premature optimization, but about preventing the equivalent of what I've seen happen when you give desktop developers GWT and get a public facing website with a 3 MB JavaScript app that polls a hard to gen

Keep in mind though that (according to Odersky) Scala's data structures are based on an improved version of Okasaki's research. It's still very much a mind-twisting and expanding book though!

From my experience working with a major Indian outsourcing company at a previous employer this seems common practice across the board. In fact the more tolerant managers experienced this transition very quickly and managers that stayed cons

Whenever somebody lists the traits of great developers the number one trait is invariably: "They're like me." I'll cut the author some slack here though since the article is over two years old by now.

They were already in beta in the Netherlands for a while actually. Given that we're quite similar to Germany except for being a bit more focussed on international trade, we might have been a test run for German deployment though.

Except that I already know excellent recruiters that work just like you describe. The problem is that I know two or three of them, but have interacted with hundreds by now.

Interesting article, but it basically boils down to calling the best recruiters matchmakers and reserve the word recruiters for the bottom of the barrel.

Yup, that's because the NoFlo way isn't going to be the paradigm-shifting development; it's just graphical sugar on the same old thing. If it'll ever become big then it'll be more like what Javelin does by adding FR

Thanks for the information; so if I understand correctly US democracy mostly comes from which officials inside each party you vote on? As for Wilders, you could say that the dominant parties were all colluding on treating low-wage earning i

You wouldn't predict it but if you assume decent code/data locality, which isn't an odd assumption in this case, the Mill's concept of scope and execution is close to a hardware implementation of Lisp's apply. FYI;

The Mill CPU [1] that was discussed a while ago is quite close to being the perfect architecture for a Lisp though, so hopefully many of other parts of these ideas will also come back in even more impressive forms. [1] http://www

That's also a massive opportunity though, since whomever could capture the attention of that 50% and get them to vote could become the biggest party overnight. To me that just sounds like an underserved market waiting to be addressed.

It's quite likely however that Lavabit, being a service that focusses on privacy, delivers enough emails directly to the target server over a secure protocol to cause problems for the NSA in this investigation.
