Listen to this guy. I've know about FBP for awhile, but haven't delved into it beyond hanging out on the list briefly[1]. Seems like there are many great concepts there that go beyond the stuff I use and I bet there are many more

In my casual experience with such systems, they are extremely limited compared to something like Max, which is in turn extremely limited and badly designed. Max is not just 'click and drag' – you can do quite complex configuration

I've used (and continue to use) them exclusively for one-off interactive installations and research prototypes (I don't work in the 'commercial' sector), but I believe a number of people have apps made with Max in the Ap

There's something I've ignored here, which is that most of these systems are at a higher level of abstraction than text-based languages. Modules (called "objects") in Max, for instance, are written in C. Max is more anal

No, I wasn't quoting anybody, I was paraphrasing John Cage. Here is the quote: “If something is boring after two minutes, try it for four. If still boring, then eight. Then sixteen. Then thirty-two. Eventually one discovers that it is

Unlike the others, I completely agree. Art that does not "express, explore, or otherwise stimulate the human mind"[1] is the definition of boring. I would however claim that the vast majority of art does stimulate the mind, though

Well, what is power? In this case it's the ability of somebody to say what you can and cannot do. But there are complexities in a non-hierarchical organization which lacks management structure. Those in power may not think they have po

Almost all of the jobs I've had have been with small "non-hierarchical" groups. In all of them, the founders have insisted that there was no hierarchy where clearly there was. When I've tried to explain this to them, the
