Shit. Also. This has actually been attempted. Urbit "infers" types from functions by executing them with type objects so the relevant bindings themselves return type objects. If you can skip over both the syntax and the creator, t

I appreciate how clear you are about the chosen trade-offs and I am also quite impressed by the extent to which the install instructions include "and now here's how you check that worked" commands - I'm sure somebody rea

I agree that the supply will increase long term, but power generation capacity tends to have a fair construction lead time and I would not be surprised if it lags demand as EVs scale out.

Ah, so 'codes' is the setting for that flag that erlang's behaviour matches. Which in an old-school prolog makes complete sense, but if you can encode the 'chars' variant efficiently then that works out fine. For th

It was ... over-optimistic. I would -suspect- that we'll get full self driving -eventually-, but which of the companies attempting it will succeed first and how many years from now I have no idea.

Taxi quality varies wildly by location. In a lot of places that's absolutely true. In a lot of places that's a laughable idea that will probably never be true.

Same in my bit of .uk. Now, admittedly, the app I use most often is stunningly ugly and has almost zero features, but it -does- have the feature of 'reliably producing a taxi when I type my name and location into it' and so long a

The other thing to note is that early on the default configuration was optimised to score really well on trivial benchmarks rather than production workloads - including having important safety features turned off. A crashing MongoDB instanc

Which means a lot of the time they end up just caching as hard as they can and hoping that's good enough. (which is often, honestly, an entirely rational decision in terms of prioritising limited resources, but still makes me sad)

For those, like me, who weren't up to speed with why this argument is made, https://www.open-std.org/jtc1/sc22/wg14/www/docs/n1967.htm seems to be a good summary of the problems with it. (if it

I continue to think that the difference in taxation between capital gains and dividends was a market distorting error. "Not growing noticeably but being steadily profitable" is IMO both underrated and overtaxed.
