Why would anybody do that? Maybe only when you charge by hour it makes sense because making something more complicated than Todo list is a struggle.

I charge almost double if client wants me on site, especially if all the company is crammed in open plan arrangement. You either can't focus well or have to keep destroying your hearing with headphones and work takes longer to complet

They are not. They sold me VS knowing well it will be obsolete in couple of months time and won't refund or discount upgrade. Absolutely vile company.

I wouldn't use M$ product. There is no guarantee that they either abandon it or start charging an arm and leg for use

It seems like author has problems with correctly architecting his apps and blames Django for his inability to do that. Only thing that makes sense is a tip for migrations.

It also counts if your client has such revenue. You could be making little, but you can't use community version if you work with such clients.

It is if client gets that money. If you write and sell your software to such clients you can't use community version even if you work alone and get paid less than a million.

Not if you sell your product to a company that have more than 5 employees or make more than million. Essentially community edition is for students and enthusiasts.

Why should I pay for things I don't need? Every other company offers upgrade paths but not Microsoft. Had I known earlier they don't care about small devs I would have bought something else.

I just bought VS 2015 in Oct 2016 and there is no upgrade path to VS 2017. Microsoft sold me legacy product and support says I have to pay again. This is still good old money hungry Microsoft that is trying to lure developer into their tool
