This is part of why I really like local models. I always use the same random seed with mine so unless I'm using aider the responses are 100% deterministic. I can actually hit c-r in my shell to reproduce them without having to do anyth

Same. I had one bad manager and it was at a small startup run by non-technical people but doing something technical. Most corporate managers I've had have been decent.

It's probably not a good idea to have people on visas attending protests. Keep in mind I'm very much not pro Isreal, but it's not practical or moral to have foreign partisans participating in our politics that way.

You'd be surprised. A number of fairly technical people who are just not that familiar with ML I know got confused by this and believed the models were actually being tuned daily. I don't think that's universally understood a

I feel like I should point out that's the dialog engine not the model itself.

It's not legal in any state because using/selling it is against federal law.

Having a robot near people with no master off switch sounds like a dumb idea.

I've personally never liked it. Defending it sounds like defending the "inflammable" thing. Yes there's historic reason for it but it's unpleasant.

Right, in general unless you're going to put a lot of care into the state machine to deal with network congestion/abuse it's better to stick with TCP.

This looks like the chip that was used in the Pinephone as well as the modem card in the machine I'm typing this on. It works well on Linux although sometimes it's not available after waking from suspend (I think that was fixed al

Enough people have taken this scorched earth attitude over random things like this that most people have few, if any, friends now so it hardly matters anymore.

5 years ago I agreed that you'd need the other sensors. ML vision has improved so quickly now I'm really not sure you do. From what I've seen the system available to consumers also performs well IRL.

It's only going to do that if you RL it with episodes that include people shutting it down for safety. The RL I've done with my models are all simulations that don't even simulate the switch.

tbh it's a lot easier to install ad-hoc extensions in Chromium than Firefox.

It makes a lot of sense actually, a lot of this stuff comes down to what the smaller groups are doing. It's for the same reason no one cares about global gun violence statistics. Talking about behavior patterns of US people like they&#

You can always ssh to random hosts and read the netbanners. Of course nearly all of them are a long paragraph or two of legal jargon that more or less boils down to "fuck off."

Usually I put master disconnect switches on my robots just to make working on them safe. I use cheap toggle switches though I'm too cheap for the big red spiny ones.

If they're going to do that anyway who cares if they're in your country? In fact it almost makes sense to have as few as possible there because they're just going to do lobbying for regulatory capture.

A lot of retailers just ask you for an email/phone number once and then associate that with your card number to send you the receipt automatically. That seems like a decent "good enough" solution.

How do you know they're "less nazi" and not just self censoring? Also if that's what people want isn't it less democratic to suppress it? Things like free speech and voting are more a service to the elites for this

We need to ignore them and isolate them from our own country's politics. All they do is create (often violent and expensive) problems for the rest of us who have no reason to be involved.

I just run git status manually, I always explicitly specify the branch when I do anything that touches a remote, everything else you can undo if you have to.

Heh. If you can't do that you don't have free speech. That's what free speech means.

You should be able to just reflash the phone and maybe point a small fan at the case. OEMs do everything they can to make that impractical though.

People need to stop moving out of their parent's house if they can't be stable. That's the root cause of a lot of the problems in the US.

Isn't the author likely to know the tool's potential best? I get that there are special cases but those should be few and ones you know well enough to memorize the exceptions for.

I mean I guess they get some perceived value out of the rims that makes the stability trade off worth it.
