All "public" insurers in Germany are private companies as well. They are all required to provide the same level of service and they all cost nearly the same. There are separate private insurers that are cheaper when you're y

So you are adopting the same world view as dictators and terrorists. At least you’re not trying to justify that somehow “we” still have the moral high ground.

Thank god all the terrorists wear t-shirts identifying them as such. Also, luckily everyone in the world agrees who the terrorists are, so it's not a problem. Furthermore, it's awesome that governments never use the terrorist labe

I think you’re not going to win this argument, but I will point out that you can’t look at a giant meadow of grass, focus on a few weeds and say, “see, it’s not grass!”. As a system, science has brought about a better understanding of the p

Given that there are 5 times as many white folks as black in the US, that stat isn't saying what you think it is. Black people are still more likely to be shot than white people. I don't think that anyone reasonable ever claimed t

For me the biggest stumbling block is always the inconsistency in the standard library of function calls. Without an IDE, I'd be constantly looking up function names and parameter order. Also, knowing which functions return a result an

Nice write up. It reminded me of the time I spent several weeks once trying to get OpenBGPD to work on OpenBSD. First I tried getting some test VMs up and talking to each other. When I couldn't get that to work, I setup a few physica

The problem with your theory is that even in hosted platforms, IT is a cost center. "The real pros" you speak of are also under the same cost pressures as everyone else. I have encountered many such services where after the "

I think you and the GP are using "lower level" in different ways. GP means with a lower barrier to entry, you mean "closer to the electrons" if I understand both of you correctly.

This is really awesome.. I too love the book Code by Petzold. I was wondering if I could help translate this into German? I have some work colleagues that could really benefit, but I think it would be easier if the explanatory text was Ge

Just rode the Shinkansen last month from Kyoto to Tokyo. Very enjoyable trip, except (like everything in Japan) at my height and size (190cm/6'3") it was a tick too small. Even in the green car. That, and the annoying foot r

As an EU citizen, I'll go against the grain here and say that I will indeed miss this service. The idea that google has made "a killing" of news.google.com is just silly. There are, I'm sure, related benefits, but they
