I think lots of website owners know exactly where the value in their content exists. Whether or not they want to share that in a convenient way, especially to competitors etc is another story. That said if scraping is inevitable, it’s immen

I’m sympathetic to the complaints about “rude” scraping behavior but there’s an easy solution. Rather than make people consume boatloads of resources they don’t want (individual page views, images, scripts, etc.) just build good interoperab

I sympathize. I became stir crazy working at home 6-9 months into the pandemic. I like having an office as a separation between my work and home lives. I like being at a place designed for working where other people are working. I like the

Slightly off topic but Target is often neglected as a tech company. They’re arguably the best at omnichannel ecommcerce. Generally cheaper than Amazon with shipping almost as fast plus same day delivery and curbside pickup options. Their ap

I think part of the larger challenge here is that the laws put the responsibility for enforcement on airlines. Flight attendants didn’t sign up and aren’t trained to be law enforcement officers. More stringent, wider ranging consequences ad

One of the ironic things here is that it’s pitted Spotify’s brand as a music company against their brand as a podcast company. For people originally drawn to Spotify as a music service the departure of even a few icons all of a sudden makes

Spotify’s purchase of JRE turns them into his publisher/sponsor. When consumers and musicians cut ties they’re speaking with their $$ and saying they don’t want to support his content. That’s not the same as silencing or censoring him.

He got paid $100M and his popularity is at least partly based on throwing red meat to stir up controversy. I think he’s thriving on attention from lots of people who would never otherwise think about him.

With Amazon and Google you’re paying half in monthly fees and half with your mineable data. This service seems geared towards people who don’t want that. Rolling your own on top of a cloud storage provider is great too but for an incrementa

I’ve been watching this project for a long time and personally am very excited. The fact that it’s #1 on HN today (congrats!) makes me think I’m not the only one. There are also a lot of valid concerns in these comments about privacy and us

I think it’s less in Google’s long term best interest and more a marriage of convenience. Hopefully a temporary one. Google increasingly wants users to find what they want on Google itself and not have to click through to the direct search

Crime doesn’t “proliferate” around housing projects in Bed Stuy, it exists just as it does everywhere. Bed Stuy and NYC as a whole rank as one of the safest cities, especially large cities. Linking the housing projects to crime without rigo

That’s fair. Things that start out as a killer feature definitely have the potential to break out into wildly successful products/ecosystems. Instagram is a great example but I’d argue their early killer feature was even more similar t
