A massive short-squeeze/bitcoin-like retail bubble is certainly not indicative of the strength of the company. Look at the last earnings report, it wasn't impressive for a growth company.

How about enacting a law that you either need to keep your hardware running via software updates, or you need to open-source all the software for others to keep doing so the moment you cease support. Would prevent a lot of waste.

The frustrating is that these virulent things often define the standard, instead of a well-thought-through solution. E.g. JavaScript.

The article explicitly mentions two times things that are only true for x86 (grep for it). In addition, the statement at the end is definitely not true for POWER: "As soon as the data is read/written to the L1 cache, the hardware-

Note that this is quite specific to x86, on other architectures like Power there are much weaker guarantees that will lead to problems when assuming the same model.

A lot of cars offer that nowadays, although it may be an optional upgrade. My VW van has ACC, lane assist, emergency breaking, warns you if it's not safe to change lanes by flashlight and steering wheel, even if the other car is 40+ me

The AWS bill seems high already. $90 dollars for m1.small, which has 1 vcpu and less than 2GB memory? At my current hosting provider that machine costs less than 5euro! What am I missing? Looking at the hourly usage it seems to be the equiv

It is quite a common case. First you do your scratch make with 800 jobs which maxes out your machine just from preprocessing :) Thereafter you only edit a small portion of the code and recompile a small number of files, which only uses a fe

With prices lower than all other taxi services they will soon be a monopoly. Also, lower prices can lead to many people not owning a car anymore, which will be an even larger market.

They are in a race: Be the first with self-driving taxis and go for the monopoly, or run out of cash. I don't want to sound pessimistic, but my bet is on the latter. It's just such a hard problem, especially in cities. I just hope

Would really love to see some before/after cost calculations for some cloud migrations. Techies, and especially the more senior ones at CTO level, can easily be scared into thinking that they need to use cloud, partly because they are

The interesting part is not the story itself, but that they chose to demo it to the BBC. Marketing at its best, they want everyone to be fully aware of their capabilities. Wouldn't be surprised if they were overstated, so as to keep c

My take, after 12 years of industry C++ experience, working on code that needs to be fast: Too much emphasis is placed on gaining another 0.5% performance improvement, instead of slightly slower code that does what was intended. At least of
