I've built pretty much the same thing using a RPi3, a USB adapter with two SNES controllers, and a wooden cabinet with two arcade sticks + lots of buttons + another USB interface, with the RetroPie ( https://retropie.org.uk&#

Interesting. Even over multiple tests, I get almost exactly 1/3rd the download bandwidth speed to NetFlix that I do testing with speedtest.net.

You beat me to it. Very reminiscent of Manfred Macx's Python-based autonomous corporations if I'm remembering the book correctly.

Don't forget Ahl's "101 BASIC Computer Games"! I spent hours and hours making stuff written for DEC/MS-BASIC work on my TI-99/4A with its limited language implementation.. https://en.wikipedia.org&#x

I have never done any sort of illegal drugs in my life - but the day after I got my CPAP machine in 2001, I said "this must be what being on crystal meth is like". So his comparison is not out of line. You feel THAT much better&#

I had a Ubiquiti Unifi-LR (flashed with normal OpenWRT so I didn't have to use their Java-based management software for ONE access point) that worked great, but the OnHub works even better. The -LR was 802.11n-only. The Unifi-AC runs

The main thing I get from reading this is that the author thinks very highly of themselves.. Perhaps a bit too much, which is why they seemed surprised when they got fired for not showing up. I sympathize with the sleep apnea bit, though -

Same here.. Long string of custom built routers, pfsense with wifi, OpenWRT, etc... even at one point a very expensive Cisco industrial-class 2.4/5 AP. Now I have an Ubiquiti Edgerouter Lite as my "core" router, and the OnHub

There was a section about this in the _Transmetropolitan_ comic/graphic novel, if my memory is correct. Lady gets reanimated in some sort of assembly-line mass process, gets a few days in a shelter, then gets kicked out into society at

After reading Ken Shirriff's review a few years ago, I bought a bunch of Touchpad chargers off eBay (before the clones started appearing) and use them for tons of stuff. http://www.righto.com/2012/10/a-dozen-u

My 1st-gen Kindle has the "Whispersync" 3G built-in and it still works fine (which was surprising last time I fired it up).

One of my neatest hardware acquisitions back in the day was a MIPS Magnum R4000 workstation - running NT 4.0. It was great, stable, and ran Windows and DOS apps in emulation (sort of like DEC's FX!32 for NT/Alpha). Per Microsoft:

I owned a Kindle 1, 2, Keyboard, and then a Paperwhite. The first-gen PW was EXTREMELY disappointing - their much-hyped backlighting was uneven and splotchy, and I hated being forced to use a touchscreen instead of having page-turn buttons.

I tend to get my refurb Thinkpads from arrowdirect.com. You can use the code ARROW for 20% off. I ordered this one as 4G/128SSD but already had the RAM on hand to upgrade it to 16G. Part sources: (if you want to upgrade from the 128G)

I feel old; I used a Wyse 320 and later a VT220 as my sole / main IO device in 1995-96 - connected to a SPARCstation 10 via a multi-port serial box at 9600 baud, with heavy use of GNU Screen. Even now, I still use a variation on that -
