"Jason's list" (his current email list) has been, on average, excellent. It consists of long writings trying to convey what he thinks in a reasoned (if occasionally emotional) way. It is plished occasionally instead of around the clock, and

Given how many TV manufacturers have been rumbling about including AirPlay support, that's not too unlikely. Microsoft had some standard for wireless projectors that I've never seen in real life, but hopefully this will catch on.

Interestingly, the article didn't mention the first, and barely touched the second. Their hypothesis on when something is surely to be condemned in the future requires universal lack of moral defensibility. Right now, the detractors on both

What I'm saying, though, is putting a dollar figure on things like gay marriage is disingenuous. We have this conception that "value" automatically means that it can be put in terms of money. Money has value, and events like law changes hav

I think assuming that the only value you derive from voting being tax rate is the major flaw here. Altruistic value is usually very high in the issues that people seem to vote based on: gay marriage, government health care, military opera

Obfuscation isn't security. If exposing the existence of a device is compromising to you, then this doesn't solve the problem, it makes it less likely. To which you might say "it makes us less likely to be compromised", which is probably yo

I'm 100% wrong here - misread the parent AND misremembered Residential Wiring classes. I am taking this as a signal that I should not do any AC wiring on my own any time soon. Also, I can't seem to make this an edit, only a reply :(

It seems highly improbably that the people working on fonts and design would otherwise be working on suspend/resume. Medium severity sounds right for a bug that only affects users with certain hardware. High severity should be reserved for

A service like wikileaks is valuable to society precisely because (in theory, though apparently not in implementation) it doesn't make the value judgement whether something is of interest or not. Instead, it gives us all the information,

This seriously doesn't need to be called Angel Gate. It took place in it's own venue - the "Bin38 Scandal" is far more appropriate (and sort of brings into perspective how ridiculous the real Watergate scandal's name is)

I guess it's because I'm the child of two English teachers, but writing in the style that McClure used takes effort for me. Writing in passable complete sentences is the norm.

The not being in debt is something I've worried about. I'm going to graduate college in a year and a half, and will have a monstrous pile of student loan debt. That would mean that I would need to be paid enough to subsistence-live and pa

As far back as I have memory (and I'm told before as well) my family had Macs in the house; our LC575 and Powerbook 150 were staples of my childhood. I remember one day when I was in my dad's office after school, sitting at his PowerMac 610

Firefox does not support OS provided codecs. Not that it's not possible, but they don't. Regardless of what Apple/Nokia do, Mozilla is very much pushing to not support h264. If they were being open about it, we'd already be able to do it.
