The photo from Eric Vucci, felt instantly iconic (my submission on it was flagged which is understandable given the political nature of it), but what I was hoping to open a discussion about is what makes a photo iconic. Like how can a photo

Yeah I chose “boring” names for my kids. I do think the best names are ones with the most meaning. You name a kid Isaac, you could be naming him after Isaac Newton. It puts something on to him. If you name a kid William, maybe you hope he w

This made me think: the thing Microsoft has been good at for a very long time is developer tools. Think about how much better visual studio is was than Xcode. If Microsoft focuses copilot on simply making things more enjoyable rather than d

I don’t know if Copilot has made me more productive, I think I get the same stuff done, but I think it has made getting the stuff done more enjoyable. At times with better quality at times with worse probably.

What about Miami? I would not think a black/brown gay or trans person would feel uncomfortable there? Or is it like the state politics? Like someone who loved Portland might hate eastern Oregon, but the state of Oregon as a majority is

When I was at UW in the dorms I felt bad for the students who came from southeast US, they’d start school like end of September, and then leave beginning of June and go back home and essentially only get the worst of western Washington weat

Higher level languages did make the ability to write a program in assembly language far less relevant. LLMs could end something akin to that, but not programming itself.

Lol that is so silly, but if I was buying an EV and all else was equal I’d totally choose having a fake manual transmission with that “feature”. Manual transmission cars are still way more fun to me, unless I had to drive through Seattle or

There are always trade offs. As someone who has essentially unlimited access to clean drinking water, I might not feel the trade off is worth it. But if I was someone who didn’t have a superabundant supply of clean drinkable water, I’d prob

Sometimes I think the reason human memory in some sense is so amazing, is what we lack in storage capacity that machines have, we makeup for in our ability to create patterns that compress the amount of information stored dramatically, and

And this is news? Hasn’t that been completely obvious since the fed was forced to hike interest rates? Nothing in life is free, and the easy money we had, especially post COVID craziness, at some point has to have a cost.

That was my point. People would justify the one because it is “dangerous” for more subjective reasons, even though the other actual leads to real physical danger. But you could argue the other danger is more insidious and ultimately would h
