Higher level languages did make the ability to write a program in assembly language far less relevant.
LLMs could end something akin to that, but not programming itself.
- mnk47 3y agoMy prediction is that it will make programming even more accessible than high level languages did, which in turn will make most programmer salaries take a nosedive except highly specialized roles. Like other many other STEM fields, a master's degree will turn into a minimum requirement if you're new to the industry and want one of the higher paying jobs. Maybe I'm overestimating how good GPT-5 will be, but it really seems like OpenAI is just about to release the one "low code" solution that actually works.
